Sony svs15112c5e BIOS access and linux installation

Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to start the BIOS on a sony vaio svs15112c5e because i haven't been able to find out how. Most sites say press f2, I tried every key at startup, nothing happens, it justs boot to w8.

However, in the advanced start up options of windows 8 I foud that it is possible to boot on usb or CD, by clicking restart. A menu appears after restart and in advanced settings I managed to start on bios, using a button that said UEFI and something else I don't remember.

I then put a priority on usb boot to install a linux distribution, I did not install because I hadn't resized my partitions, etc... so I decided to restart the computer and then I got an error like "Operating System not found".

I tried to fixmbr, fixboot and other stuff to repair w8 installation but nothing worked so I wiped my hdd and reinstalled w8. Now the button in w8 with UEFI thing doesn't appear anymore. I cannot boot on bios no matter how many times I pressed f2 and other buttons.

How do you easily access the bios on svs15112c5e ???

Hi Croook,

• Confirm that the PC is off
• Press the “Assist Button”
• VAIO Care Rescue Mode will now launch
• There are 6 options to choose from:

a. Recover or maintain your System [F10]
This options allows the user to perform a system recovery back to factory condition
b. Start from media (USB device/optical disc) [F11]
This options allows the user to boot from a CD/DVD or from a USB device
c. Start BIOS [F2]
This options allow the user to enter BIOS and made modifications to their system
d. Shut down [F4]
This option will shut down the Personal Computer
e. Start Windows [Esc]
This option will allow the user to boot into Windows
f. Select language [F1]
This option will allow the user to select a different languages
