My PC keeps losing date and time when I power it on - it also powers up as soon as mains electricity is connected.

Is this related to internal battery and how can I get this resolved?

Hi,

Losing date and time may very well indicate that the CMOS battery is failing. Not too sure about it powering up once mains power is connected – this may possibly be a separate problem.

Replacing the CMOS battery is not a simple task as it requires disassembly. And unless you feel comfortable with this I suggest that you contact one of the Sony repair partners or a competent local repairer.

As an alternative to changing the CMOS battery, if your system is always connected to the internet, i would suggest you to use software like BetaClock (which also offers a customizable tray clock display) or Neutron.

Those programs can start with your Windows session and directly synchronize the system clock over the internet.

That's how I personally solved this problem.

The cmos battery was a nightmare to find, i strippped mine down 3 time before i found the answer in the internet.

First remove the screws from the rear panel, (leave them in there respective holes as there are different lengths, once you have removed them gentally prise off the speaker cover on the front, yes the front, once removed look at the side of the lcd screen and remove the 2 screw that have small wires connect to them, just them 2, slowly lift the lcd screen and look under it and you will see the battery, very easy flick out and replace, refit lcd screen and replace the screws don't forget the little wires, re assamble and that should cure your time problem.. It took me 15 minutes. No where on any sony sites will tell you this
