Synchronise files with home network. Recommend software?

Hi,

I have just received my FS115Z. Very happy with it so far.

In order to get truly mobile, I would like to be able to take my files with me on my notebook. My home network runs Win server 2003, and if the FS115Z had win XP Pro - that would be so easy, just use off-line files and it's done!.

But - I don't want to upgrade this machine just yet.

I'd like a piece of software which does this for me. I couldn't find anything in the Sony supplied software, and google reveals hundreds of solutions.

I would welcome anyone's recommendations. I value robust operation and stability over features.

In fact you can upgrade Windows XP Home Edition to Windows XP Professional but be warned Sony do not generally support Windows XP Professional if it has not been provided with your computer.

You have two choices, buy an additional Windows XP licence from Microsoft OR buy the Windows XP Professional Upgrade Disk.

If you click here you will find the instructions needed to carry out this operation.

Before you do this please back up all of your data, and burn all of your drivers to a CD-R disk.

Thanks for the replies.

When I was buying the machine, I was unable to find a retailer who was able to provide the FS115Z with XP Pro as supplied from Sony. This is what I really wanted. Do you know if this is possible?

I'll give laplink a go. Forgot about that one!

The problem is you'd have to sell your current one and buy the XP Pro edition.

As James says it's cheaper to buy an upgrade for Windows XP Pro, but really XP Pro doesn't have much better tools for this.

There are other synch programs - check download.com for cheaper alternatives.

I looked really hard for a Vaio FS115Z with XP Pro in the box, but no success - to the degree that I concluded that one wasn't available.

Selling the notebook seems a little drastic. Surely all I need is a licence and a new hard drive build.?

Problem is Sony don't do it.
You would have to - at best - get a XP Pro Upgrade disk.
