what i was told about batteries to increase their life:

1) Rechargeble battries are suposed to keep at least 85% of their capacity after 1 year of use. In fact we should talk about Cycles.
2) Li-On and Li-Polymer batteries do not have a memory effect, but have less cycles of life. (Most of the Laptop batteries are actually Li-On).
3) If you want to keep your battery for a long time, you should take care of it:
- Do Not Use when its not needed (and keep it charged)!
- Many people keep their battery constantly in their laptop, event if they are working on their desk with a power supply. If you use a power supply, you should un-mount your battery as soon as it is 100% charged, and keep it in a "safe" place (around 25°C).
- When you want to use your laptop on travelling, mount your battery again in your laptop.
- If you do not use your laptop while traveling very often, remember to recharge your battery once a month, because batteries have a "self discharge" rate.

I you want to have more autonomy you can of course:
- lower the brightness of the sreen
- Avoid use of CD/DVD and even your Hard dive (don't think that watching a movie on HD use less power than on DVD...)
- Buy a Centrino.....

See you

Tarik
