Sony Vaio GRX516MD

Hi
I am having problems with the model above.
Everything was working ok but then suddenly the screen went dim and now i cannot see anything.
When i boot the laptop up the sony splash screen appears red and then flickers.
Is this a definate sign of the backlight having failed?
I can get a picture on a external monitor.

Hi

Sounds to me like the inverter is going....
You can replace it, but I can't remember the site where you can order them from.

Thanks for that.
The laptop also shows a slightly red tinge to the sony logo when it boots up.
How much would an inverter be and are they hard to change??

Probably no more than £200
Not sure how to fit them.

Thanks, if i press the screen sleep button down on the lid catch the screen comes on for a few seconds and then goes out, is that normal?
