A317M - special keys problem with XP PRO

Hi,

I just get a A317M. I installed XP Pro with SP2 but now, I can't get the 'extra' buttons working (sound level, brightness, S, cd eject).
I have the restore CD, I download everything from vaio-link, but nothing seems to work.

Is there anybody to help me ?

Hi,

Sorry but I don't have utils.exe file.
I have downloaded and installed everything from vaio-link, but the 'hot keys' still don't work.

I have also checked my dvd of course.
I searched on the web and i could'nt find that exe .....

I forgot to say that my A317 is a second hand one.
The only dvd I have is the one I burned myself.

So, I don't find any utils.exe file.

Did you download the drivers package from the site? (Original Drivers and Utilities I think they called it)

You could buy a recovery dvd. But I don't know wheter this would be help.:smileysad:

I have an A317M too. There is an utility called "VAIO recovered tool". This aplication must be installed in your VAIO. I recommend you to burn a recovery DVD and turn your computer back to initial state.

Sony should start doing some thinking...but then again..does ANYONE from Sony EVER read ANY of these posts???

You have a point though Inectarios, if Sony DID read these posts more frequently then maybe their software would be better.:smileywink:

Hi,

Just for you information, I have 'difficulties' since I bought this pc... a month ago.
I had problems with dvd bruner, with dvd playing, sound card ....
I spent more time solving problems than 'using' my notebook.
There is not even a 'simple' download center where I can find all I need to perform a clean installation.
For the soundcard, I had to install the drivers from the manufacturer of the chipset .... the sony drivers refuse to install ....

I had a lot of different laptops, but it's with my 2 vaio that I had that much problems.

Ooops, sorry, but I don't understand your last answer.....

Ok, I'll try once more .... Because I like this notebook. If only I could find that 'utils.exe' to make my special keys work !!!

In itself, the notebook is great but it's very frustrating that I can't use all of it's functiunalities because sony don't provide enought support .....

If someone could give me a download link to my missing files, I would be happy to keep my A317M.

Sur ton cd de restauration il y a un dossier VAIO Applications, tu l'ouvres et ensuite tu ouvres le dossiers Applications;là tu ouvres le dossier Utils Installer 2 et tu clic sur le setup;ensuite tu reviens dans le dossier Applications et ouvres le dossier Utils Installer 3 et pareil tu clic sur le setup. C'est les 2 fichiers nécessaires pour les réglages du son,de la lumiére, bref des touches fonctions.

Merci pour ta réponse, mais j'ai essayé ça aussi.
J'ai finalement downloadé les fichiers du A217 ....
Ca a fonctioné sauf le mode 'auto' pour la luminosité.

De toutes façons, le portable est vendu.
Comme je l'ai expliqué dans une autre réponse, ce portable m'a posé des problèmes depuis le début.
Quand ce n'était pas la carte son, c'était les drivers ATAPI, ou le graveur DVD qui n'a commencé à accepter quelques médias qu'après avoir flashé avec un firmware LiteOn !!!

J'ai donc acheté un acer .... nettement moins beau, écran de moindre qualité .... mais j'ai installé un XP Pro SP2 sans AUCUN problème .... et toutes les fonctions spécifiques du laptop (y compris les hotkeys) fonctionnent SANS PROBLEME.

Ma mere pense a acheter un Acer aussi, elle n'a pas une grande bujet pour un Sony!
