Thanks for your reply. Yes, I have tried the power options in the control panel, but it seems like the options apply to the first disk only.

Furthermore, there is a Serial ATA control in the control panel, but opens up with all options greyed out. Any other Dual DIsk BX owners out there?

Hello all,

I recently purchased a vaio BX-series laptop (VGN BX 197XP) with dual disk drives fitted (2x80gb). The problem is that the disks often spin-down to save power.

This is a major issue since spinnig-up of the disks are done very often and cause the computer to halt for a couple of seconds. Very frustrating!

Does anyone know how to prevent the disks from spinning down? Ive checked the BIOS, no settings there. I want the disks to always be spinning.

Peter

I don't have the BX, but on my S series there is an option in the VAIO Power Manager that let's me set the power options for HDD, Optical drives and LCD screen.
Maybe you can set it in via this program.
