Sony ICF-506 Analog Tuning Portable FM/AM Radio

My power cable will not fit properly into the AC IN port on my radio and batteries do not appear to last for more than a few days. Perhaps this is a problem that other users experience ?

The battery life should be approximately 35 hours according to the Manual, so a few days would be accurate.

Can you explain why or how the cable doesn't fit?

Thanks J D for your response but at the most I would have the radio on for
2 hours and it also cuts out sometimes and restarts. The cable and port
look normal and undamaged. This radio is a replacement for one that also
gave similar problems so perhaps they are part of a faulty batch.. Not a
big problem as it was not expensive and I also can't locate my receipt so
I'll just move on.
