Z5 Premium Dual - Phone bricked after update

Hi,

I am having an issue with my Z5 Premium Dual phone. It is unresponsive and will not power on.

I performed an update last night and when using the phone this morning it said there was no service. I then restarted the phone. After powering down it did not turn on.

The battery is at 100%. I have performed all tests, holding the power and volume up button, pressing the button in the SIM tray, connecting it to the xperia companion to try and repair it. All with no success.

The phone is 100% unresponsive. No vibrations, no indicator lights, nothing at all. I have called tech support here in Canada and gone through the steps with them but still nothing.

They have advised me to get into contact with Singapore since they are the local manufacturer of my device however when using this form online it gives me an error.

Try to download the firmware with XperiFirm then Re Flash by yourself again

Just to confirm, when you contacted the support team have they recommend you run a software repair using Xperia Companion? If not, please try this.

Hi Cameron,

Unfortunately as mentioned above, I have tried. The phone is unresponsive so plugging it into the computer to do anything at all is useless. It does not recognize that there is a device there.

I have held the button down for a long time and then connected and stayed connected for a long time and no response from PC Companion or the phone.

Try to download the right firmware then re flash it with flashtool and i hope it works

Still not working. I've run out of options. A shame since I've only had the phone for less than a year and have been really happy with it

Sad to see the support department gave up as well. The exact same situation has just happened to me. Google and Sony have just cost me £300. Surely there is a regulatory body to turn to?

Yep, in the end I had to get rid of the phone.

I really loved the phone but I wasn't getting another one after that and at the time Sony didn't have any offerings that spoke to me. Bought a Pixel now.

I have just had my Z5 die after yesterday''s update. So you are not alone. Mine is also not fixed. However I am assuming that it is Sony's responsibility to fix it or give some recompense. It is their phone, not rooted and their update broke it. Therefore they must be liable .... surely....

An update on my own post - if that is allowed 😉

When my phone failed to respond to Xperia Companion, Sony recommended that I return it to them for repair. They seem to accept that there is a two year warranty period so there does not seem to be an issue about whether it was their fault or not, in terms of getting it repaired. So now it appears that all I have to do is survive without it for a couple of weeks....

It would be nice to thing that the original poster in this thread might get a similar solution.

Glad you were able to get some help, Sony was less than helpful so I was forced to ditch the phone for a new one.

I ended up getting $40 to trade it in to Best Buy for a Google Pixel.

Hopefully not many others had this issue
