xperia z5 overheat?

When my z5 start the update to new version the temps are high.

30seconds after finish the os and apps update the cpuz sensors tsens_tz_sensor 2.3.4.5.6 was 64+celcius and it needs 30more seconds to cool down (30c)

The room temps are 22-23celcius

For the update my phone drain 9% of battery from 90%-81% and take more than 15mins.

After Marshmallow update installation is finished, apps will be optimized with the new software. The more apps you had installed the longer this process will take, leading to more battery consumption and more heat generation. Once optimization is finished, your phone performance will be back to normal.

After 8 month of use Xperia Z5 I regret that why I bought this heater. Those days everyone told me that don't buy Sony phones and now I can understand the reason of Sony losses in market. I paid over 520$ for a simple heater. It's ridiculous my phone battery percentage decrease even while it's connected to a UCH10 fast charger and I'm playing a online game. The temperature easily reach 57 degree so you feels burning skin. I did factory reset, repair, reduce display brightness to zero and etc. Nothing changed. Please never buy any sony phone. E6633. Android 6.0.1 build number 305. Seriously Do NOT buy Z5. Here is screen shots from cpu-z

it depends on your usage,

1.) the device heats up during heavy usage like playing games 1-2 hours or more, 4k recording or using the AR and other camera apps, using the device for prolonged length of time. etc

2.) environment, thick cases

3.) after app installations , updates, software updates,

4.) using the phone while charging

I earned new achievement last night. This smart heater reached 60 C degree. Marshmallow has reduced temperature but it ruined battery endurance. New screen shot:

Hey guys, I found out something weird! In Gsmarena and all other review sites they have wrote that Snapdragon 810 has 4*1.5 ghz A53 +4*2.0 ghz A57. But I checked couple times and CPU-Z shows my Cpu structure is 4*1.96 ghz A53 and 4*1.56 ghz A57. Their Clock is vice-versa. Maybe that's my phone gets too hot. Please check is it same for you!?! It drives me crazy couple minutes ago This Heater reached 65c degree! It's crazy why they don't think about this problem! I uninstalled every application that I used less and nothing changed, please please please send them our user feedback. Something is not right about Z5 E6633. I have scared of use this phone because I think it might burning itself. Over 60 degree is not a joke. Just look at this screenshot:

The phone itself it is too powerful for the size of the device and not that efficient (though it fares better than the previous SoCs in efficiency department), however the software is well optimized. The heat is quite evenly spread on the shell of the phone, where the top side below the camera is slightly warmer than the rest. To know how thoughful Sony was about this issue Z5 and Z5 premium have heat speaders with heatpipes!

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 (MSM8994) SoC has rougly the performance of an Atom x5-Z8500 CPU (take this affirmation with a grain of salt as it difers on some notable points) that is used on some small laptops. Those laptops are passivelly cooled by have a much larger area to dissipate the heat.

If I'm not mistaken, the 810 has a maximum TDP of 4W (although Sony could have limited this to 2~3W), that ends up in generated heat, and the SoC will throttle down to avoid going up in flames, however it can reach quite high temperatures and can be further throttled down by the mainboard sensors.

I have a Z5c, for me an operational temperature up to 55ºC is 'normal'. 65ºC is the hot maximum (reached when gaming) and if I notice it going past 70ºC I'll turn off the device or avoid using it for a bit.

IDK about the setup for Sony Z5/Z5c, but many manufacturers set the phone to throttle down when skin (outside shell) temperature reaches 45ºC, regardless of the SoC actual temperature. Most devices I know of never go past 50ºC to the touch (unless they are actually on fire).

With regard to throttling, the 810 SoC throttles down quite heavily just after 2 mins of heavy usage (however consider that it can do quite a lot on those 2 mins at those power levels). When updating the system for the first time it went past 70ºC for me and took 20mins or so, when doing it the second time (Marshmallow 6.0.1), I grabbed a wine cooling sleeve and put the phone in it (not kidding), even then it reached +40ºC on the SoC. I've also tested this with Antutu and it can go from 70k points in an hot day, to 98k points inside the wine cooling sleeve.

Taking all that in consideration, the phone gets warm to the touch with normal use, and slightly hot when playing somewhat demanding games (Galaxy on Fire, Pokemon Go, etc).

While this is not troublesome right away, the heat kills the battery and other components longevity. If you think your phone is getting too hot, consider what services your are running on the background and consider turning Stamina Mode on. If that doesn't help and you are not using it that heavily, then some wrong might be going on with your device (either software or hardware)...

The high power consumption from the SoC together with all the other components (screen, GPS, WiFi, etc) exacerbates the high temperatures as the energy has to go somewhere.

If you use the camera to record 4K for too long (definition of long can be broad) I know that the phone will overheat and stop the camera app.

Actually before Z5 I had Note5 and now I regret my change decision, the only problem was it's big size.I believe it is not right if we put all the faults on Sd810. They are many devices that use the same SoC and they are cooler that Xperia Z5 for example look at HTC m9. I'll wait for Android 7 and if that doesn't solve the problem I'll go for a safer device. Probably my next phone is a Google nexus or apple! At least they know what they are doing. After these month of use I understand why LG bypassed using 810. Note 5 was really cool even under heavy usage and playing games. I made a wrong decision and after this mess of Note7 I won't go for Samsung again! Let's hope Sony control this Smart heater...

My xperia z5 always overheating when I charge my phone ,it can go up to 42.5c (checked by app) .Any solution to recommend? I using the build number 32.2.a.5.11 and the charger uch 10 to charge my phone .(sorry for my broken english)

The phone heats like . And now I am considering a law case for medical injuries, treatment and compensation.

Why it heats up like crazy ? Simply the 20nm is not (by any means ) the proper technology for such TDP / space.

How it can be solved (without rooting)? Further optimization by manufacture that includes throttling and thermal budget (both) in considerations. (60 degrees is not ok for peek point, 40 degrees are not ok as normal points) , hard decisions can be made, like disabling the big cluster at all, and /or cutting the max frequency.

These modes can be added as special stamina points like: don't burn my skin, it's summer now please, and I want to live (with my finger tips still having feeling skin). - For example.

Usually the torture starts with sensitive areas like fine nails and the soft skin in your finger tips (at least in espionage movies )- yet it's safe to state that already confess everything without the torture part ! Please !

Is it a good performer ? Phenomenal !

Is it highly optimized ? Like a wizard !

This is Sony !

But unless someone (at your end) is highly paid to ruin the legend...

Please act upon the pitfalls !!! In a better and more responsive ways!

Mine too geeting warm rather quickly, even for only to read messages from whatssapp, or for browsing too. I believe something happen when I updated an app or few of them from play store which currently make it worse. I had this phone just for a month and it's not global version, but docomo itself, and won't try to do some repaired software or so yet. But still, I can't believe every smartphone I bought from sony led to this nuisances.

I figured out that the 'extreme overheating' (80C+) is a power leak (partial short circuit) on the CPU/power circuitry. This is board and/or chip damage from the extreme flex from the chintzy chassis structure.

This is good reason / analysis, but any suggested solutions - without having to open the chassis ( and loose the ip68 ) or nodding the firmware ? Sony should look into that utilizing an optional push update, that don't force limitations , but at least allow more power control, é.g. Disabling the CPU high bank or half of it... Etc.
