I recently purchased the Z5C and chose the Pattern unlock instead of a PIN. Although up-swiping the unlock screen to get to the pattern screen works perfectly, it takes 3-4 attempts to get the pattern screen to respond, and sometimes it starts tracing a pattern mid-way through the pattern. After having felt locked out of my phone several times, I switched to the PIN unlock. I am running Anroid 6.0.1.

I am seeing the same issue in Safe Mode, and there appears to be some correlation between sleeping time and pattern screen responsiveness.

Oh, I also failed to mention that when I was using the pattern unlock, Android Pay displayed that screen when the terminal requested a PIN... I had to terminate the transaction and pay with a credit card.

While I like the pattern unlock idea for security, it does not appear to be well integrated into the OS.

UPDATE.

Sony support recommended downloading Xperia Companion and reinstalling the operating system. Wiping the phone clean and starting over seemed like a drastic step to take, but having endured that agony, this problem is resolved.

I was also having problems with the "swipe to answer" motion causing phone calls to be rejected, and backup not recognizing events entered into the calendar. These issues have also been resolved.
