Is there anything i should try or should i just return it to Carphone warehouse?

That's odd, but you could try this:

connect the phone to a wall charger > press and hold power & volume up for 10-15 seconds > let it charge for 3 hours > check if it turn back on.

Thanks! That switched on the phone! Why did it switch off in the first place and be unresponsive when I stuck it on charge or tried to switch it on? is there an issue with the phone? The method you gave me made the phone vibrate and switch on! should i still go to carphone warehouse and request a replacement?

you don't need a replacement, this happen, not often, but it does happen, it could be that an app acted up and drain the battery. You could repair the phone with PCC but I don't think its needed
