My wife has a Sony Xperia Z5 Compact that she bought in November last year. Just before Christmas it developed an intermittent fault with the ear speaker. The fault occurs every few days and causes the ear speaker to completely die: can't hear a dial tone, can't hear the rings, can't hear the person dialled, although they can hear my wife clearly if they pick up. The fault then seems to rectify itself shortly afterwards.

I've made several searches with Google and can't find anything like this for this model of phone. Any thoughts on the cause or any similar experiences? Any advice on how to resolve this problem?

I have the same issue!

After several factory resets and replacement of the ear speaker, still same thing, even in safe mode. Anybody found a solution? I can't even tell if this is a software or hardware issue...

Cheers

I have the same issue. My Z5 Compact is less than one year old. Some weeks back the ear speaker has stopped working, often a couple of seconds after answering. I have tried the safe mode, the problem was the same. Diagnostics show that the hardware works fine. Just now I really cannot phone or answer calls, they all end up me telling that I cannot hear the other person. I have Android 6.0.1, updated as soon as it came available. Model number E5823. I have still not experimented with wifi.

Seems that there are a number of people having the same problem. My ear speaker on Z5 Compact stopped working last night with no apparent reason. Since then I tried all the diagnostics, including the service mode- all to no avail. Used the Xperia companion and did the software repair, still no luck. I can't tell what the source of the problem is, but it's really annoying. Can anyone at Sony please help us here?

It's absolutely mute, no matter what the source of sound is. Imagine listening to Bohemian Rhapsody with left channel dead. Horrible. In service mode test the speaker is defined as left, that's how I know which channel I'm missing. Any ideas?

It makes you wonder how those things are built. They're not the cheapest. Sony has been my choice since W300 or even earlier but there's always been something that makes me wonder why. My all time favourite Z1 compact has developed a nasty battery flaw and now this. Well, time to get another phone serviced. Thanks for your help.

I bougt a phone that had that problem and I have solved the problem. But you need to open the phone. The problem is not in the speaker, but in the plastic frame inside the phone. Here it is a "wire" glued on the frame. It is not goldened so it wil oxidize. What i did was to soldered new wires directly from the motherboard to the connector on the speaker. That solved the problem 🙂

I think this is the solution. I have the same problem. The problem is at the back cover. When I have my finger on my back, I can't hear anything. I was thinking of same but I don't have the confidence to open the phone and repair it myself 😣

And sometimes people complain plain that my voice is really low. Sony has to work on this.
