proximity sensor issue work around

In previous lollipop version caller, I can double click power button to wake up screen, and keep it on when screen is facing up.

But in new marshmallow caller, there is no workaround with faulty proximity sensor. There is no way wake up screen and keep it on during call. I already reverse to lollipop, and I hope sony can address this issue. All other sensor can be disabled, there should be a choice to disable proximity sensor, at least in caller app.

My z5 is exactly the same. Had it a week. What's the point in screen protectors if you can't use your phone as a phone?! I refuse to accept this as a credible answer as if you want to trade your phone in it will probably have scratches therefor devaluing it. Another money making scam - sort it out Sony! If that's the only response I get tomorrow when I complain in store, they have lost my custom.

I admit I haven't read all messages in this long thread but I post this hoping it might be useful to someone.

A few weeks I have started facing the problem of phone screen going blank during calls and not turning on again when I take it away from my ear.

I never had this problem before so I started thinking about what has changed in my phone recently and the only thing I could think of is that a couple of weeks ago I enabled the "tap to wake up" setting.

I ran some tests and my Z3C on 5.1.1 behaves like this:

- if "tap to wake up" is enabled the phone goes blank and stays blank even if I take it away from my ear.

- if "tap to wake up" is not enabled the phone behaves correctly (most times) and the screen is re-enabled when the phone is moved away from my ear.

So it seems that, at least in my case, the issue is related to the "tap to wake up" setting.

PS: I ran the ear proximity test and the phone vibrates all the time in both cases so maybe my theory is wrong and simply the sensor has started failing in the last weeks....

Had the same problem with my Z5 sudenly after 6 months. Tried everything posted here with no luck.

Finally did something that accidentally solved the problem. I went to Settings >> Display. Switched off the Adaptive Brightness. Made a test call, problem gone.

Out of curiousity, switched the setting on again. Problem did not come back, it stays away. Strange... But who cares. At least I can stay with this phone till the time come (and money of course) to replace my phone.

Found more pattern:

- When a call is made while ear sensor is covered (i tested with finger), screen goes black. It does not return even though i lift the finger, unless the call is dropped for any reason. The next calls will always with this problem even if this time the sensor is not covered.

The workaround is to change the brightness level. Behavior always back to normal after changing brightness level. So it is not the adaptive brightness setting (I take back my earlier post).

Nonetheless, it is Sony issue either with the SW or low quality sensor that is short-lived. I would never get Sony for my next phones.

This is most probably an issue with a cheap hardware component failing after just a few months...

This is because your front camera sensor is either covered with a glass protector or is faulty. I removed my glass protector and the black screen issue solved itself. Hope this helps

This is my second Sony. I used to own a Z3 and it just died on me. I have a Z5 now and the same problem exists. It seems to me that the software is not up to international standards.

My phone screen goes blank during a call and I have also removed the screen protector as well. The customer service at Singapore's Sony Service Centre located at Orchard Road is terrible and of low serviec standards.

I really regret switching to Sony. Previously I was using iPhone 4 and then later on Samsung Galaxy Note II. Although Sony has a good quality camera, it's basic function pales in comparion to those of Apple and Samsung.

I hope Sony works on addressing this software glitch rather than use sales gimmicks to sell their phones.

Terrible.
