email download limit reached?

Hi All.
I have recently moved from a z3 compact to a z5, and there is something happening that I have not seen before.
When I get an email with an attachment it doesn't download it but simply states at the top of the email "pre download limit reached" but I have set the pre download limit to "no limit" when I click on "download message" it just downloads forever but never actually downloads.

Is there another setting that I need to change?

There are 4 files total of 5mb.
But I have set up the account using outlook and it downloads without a problem. I also tried using Gmail app and it works. The only email app that won't work is the default Sony one.

I never had a problem on my old z3 compact.

That sounds a bit strange. What type of email account is it (POP, IMAP, ActiveSync)? If it's an ActiveSync account, do you know if there's any policy set on the server regarding email size?

Yes it is a bit strange and gets even more so.

I tried a few experiments this morning, I sent myself some emails with attachments of varying size. 100k 3gb and 6gb and they all worked, so I'm a bit baffled. The email that didn't open still won't download the attachments, (2 x pdf, 1x jpeg and 1x png)

I also tried deleting the email account and resistance installing it. The email is a pop3 account

So it seems it happens with this specific email only?

What happens if you download the attachements in this email using another client and then send them in a new email to yourself? Is our client able to download the attachments from the new email?

OK I forwarded the message from outlook to myself, and it came in no problem to the Sony email app. I am able to read all the attachments. The original email still will not download the attachments. The original email was sent to a lot of people and they all (well the ones I spoke to) were able to read the attachments, which makes sense as my phone could read them using either outlook or Gmail app.

It has happened again.
I received another email with a word attachment and get the same pre download limit reached message, and constant downloading with nothing actually downloading. The word doc was small only 16kb

So I went into outlook app and it was there so I sent it to myself and worked without a problem.

So now I'm looking at anything that is different and the only thing that is different and common to this problem and the last problem is both emails were sent to multiple people.

Could this be the bug? When an email is CC to many people with an attachment, the email app gets somehow confused?

I must add that both these emails are trusted business emails and not spam or viruses. Neither were flagged as viruses. Neither of the two emails are connected in any way they are not from the same account or company, and they do not have anybody in common in the cc list. They are completely unrelated genuine emails.

I have exactly the same problem with my 5ZC. Also no limit in the settings, but the same message. Pre-download limit reached. Message not fully downloaded. Then there is also the option Retrieve Full Email. If I hit that, it's downloading forever and nothing comes in. Also these emails are send to at least 5 other people.

Ok, so it's not just me then.

Are there others in the cc list or was the email just sent to you?
Was there a word doc attached?

I still have not found a fix other than to use a different email app.

The attached file was a pps file. Yesterday I tried it with my former phone (Xperia S) and nothing went wrong.

Also using the standard email app.

I'm afraid i don't know what could cause this. I've been testing it here but even if there are 20+ recepients i can download the attachments.

Does your email account support IMAP or ActiveSync and if so, could you please test if the same thing happens on IMAP/ActiveSync?

Hi, did you ever get a solution to this problem? I have exactly the same issue on my Z5.

Tried various emails ( New, Forwarded etc) and different file types.

Spoke to Sony but no real help. Tried resetting the email app but no joy. They suggested it might be with my ISP but i have doubts.

This is making the phone unusable for my requirements.

@Richard my email is pop3.
I don't how to recreate it, when I send them to myself they work.
Just as a FYI I also was sent an email from a work colleague a few days ago. He forwarded an email that had attachments and was sent to him and a lot of other cc's. When I got it, the email body was completely blank, and no attachments. All I got was the subject. I figured he had made some error when he sent it and thought no more about it. I noticed when I checked my email on my computer that he did in fact forward the whole email. It still shows up as a blank email on my phone with 0kb There is no mention of the pre download limit. So a slightly different problem but I suspect part of the same bug.

If you you feel the phone is unusable with the email app, simply download one from the play store. I am now using CloudMagic and it works perfectly.

I have exact same problem with my new Z5 premium dual sim,my Gmail opens with attachments, but if I forward it to my other email the message comes "pre_download limit reached." and I try to fully download message, tries but won't download, my download limit is set at "no limit"

Would it be possible for you to send me logs from your phone and the email client which may show what causes this?
