topic Z5 premium bent in Z Series

Recently, or in other words, less than a week ago, I bought myself the Z5 premium and so far, everything has been fantastic. Apart from the lack of earphones included in my £600 purchase...

Only now I've taken it out my pocket and noticed the side casing had popped out a bit, upon further inspection I now realise that my brand new top of the range smartphone, is housed in a cheap bent frame. Anyone know how to get this resolved without sending it away? Only just had my Z2 fixed and it took over a week to get it back. Not good enough Sony.

The Premium variant's frame is not aluminum but stainless steel, which I assume was chosen for it's superior torsion resistance properties.

Sad to hear you guys are having #bendgate issues. Hope it's just faulty devices and they replace it for u nice and quick

My Z2 was kept in exact same place and never had any bending issues. Also if I pay £600 for a stronger steel framed phone I do not expect it to bend so easily. Haven't contacted Sony yet as I assume they'll do hee haw but watch this space over next few days for solution

You're not spending £600 for a stronger steel framed phone. You're paying for the latest device.

Phones aren't indestructible either. I've heard nothing of this issue apart from here. Perhaps you have a faulty device. Take it back to the shop, chances are they'll tell you not to sit down with the phone in your back pocket and the like.

I've had the Z5 standard for around 3 months and just today looked at my phone when it was sat flat on my desk and saw that it had bent pretty badly exactly where the power button is on the side.

I am so annoyed with this as I only keep my phone in my front side pocket in my trousers (which are always baggy btw!) and have never sat on it, dropped it etc as I'm sure Sony will claim when I get in contact with them.

I really hope that something can be sorted with the phones as its obviously not just a couple of isolated incidents. I love the phone but judging by other posts on different forums about the previous generations of Xperia, it seems that Sony refuse to admit that their phones have a design fault.

I severely hope that Sony will replace these phones.

How did the glass not crack. If your try to bend it the way its bent on the phone you'll surely crack it with half of the way getting to the point of how its bent on the phone.

There's a low chance of sony accepting it for a warranty repair.

Exactly the point I was making ^^^
For a phone to "self bend" not only would the glass be obliterated, but the display itself would be shot to bits too.
Phone frames will only bend under seriously extreme temperatures, and long before they bent, the display, glass, and battery would be destroyed.
I assume there's no way to attach an image? My phone is still functioning as it should, so haven't contacted support yet but may do tomorrow considering how many replies this thread is getting.

Yes the frame is steel, yes it has bent, however no, the glass has not cracked and the display isn't missing one pixel never mind being shot to bits. I'll check the full site to see if I can upload a pic as using the mobile version on my bent Z5 premium just now.

My Z5 Dual bends the same. I put them in the front poket of my boardwalk shorts -not tight at all and the shorts are very stretchable. I dont even noticed when and how it happened. Just noticed 4 days ago when my friend was looking at my phone.

Going to go to Sony tomorrow to get it look at.

What happened to u guys? any update?

I've got some interesting info to share on this topic. My phone started to bend almost as soon as I bought it 1 year ago (Xperia Z3), I always kept it in a rigid case and would be always really careful if i ever felt it was too tight in my pocket.

Fast forward to now, i've just dropped the phone and the screen has smashed, this was totally my fault but what is really interesting to see now is that the phone is totally bendable with the smashed screen, I can bend and twist the phone and way I like! which is scary, the screen seems to be a vital part of the phones structure.

I also have this problem and Sony says it is my own fault and I had to pay the research costs wich were €50,82.

It can't be our own fault if we all have the same problem. I hope they will replace our phones but i give it a low chance.

I have had the same happen to me. Sent my phone in due to WiFi issues. Got a message back saying phone was bent and wanted £140 to fix it as it's not covered under warranty. I've had a case and glass screen protector on since the first week of owning it. I'm reasonably careful with phones as I like good quality for resale value. I'm not happy to say the least. This clearly is a defect. The screen underneath screen protector is now cracking. This is appalling. The numpty above chiming in saying it's not a problem clearly works for Sony. This experience of a phone has been my worst yet. Laggy software for months and then WiFi and bent phone. This is appalling to then say it's not covered under warranty as it's not fit for purpose. I see a lengthy talk with trading standards.

I sent a Z3 to service because of yellow tint problem. Came back without vibration. It's amazing what some of these authorized service companys can do.. Allthough I had the yellow tint problem to occur after that also and Sony then shipped me a Z5 instead, so was feeling quite happy. Now I'm a bit scared after reading this topic.
