Does it heat when you play games, or a lot of apps are running in background? If yes, a little warm up on the back side is acceptable.

But if it heats up in normal usage, you should probably get it checked at an authorised Sony service centre.

sounds to me like you have installed something that is keeping the phone active 100% of the time

remove all installed apps especially memory cpu battery managers and task killers (they cause problems) - turn off wifi and BT - turn off data - and turn sync off and see if you have the issue, also uninstall the antivrus that came with the phone - you don't need it

you can also look at the battery usage profile and see what is active

The phone will heat up whilst in use, however it should not be getting hot enough for problems to occur. In this case I would advise returning the handset so that it may be assessed by an authorised agent.

What are your thoughts about this forum? Let us know by doing this short survey.

Hi,

I have Xperia Z for few weeks. I installed newest Copilot (GPS naviation). Since uses GPS the battery goes faster so I must recharge the phone in the car while using the program. Happened that after some time the phone became very hot in the upper midle area and even shut down by itself.

Sometimes hapens this heating when I work normally without using GPS, but without shuting down.

Is this heating normal for this processor?

Is shuting down normal protection as I found some program running in apps that is for overheating protection?

I think that this problem might be due to interferance of the processor heating and charging heating as the charging input is close to the processor. Maybe this wont be a problem when the input would be on the bottom side of the phone???

Yes, its a some kind of security to auto-shutdown when your Xperia is over heating .. so your phone will not get any damage , I recommend for you to try repairing your phone via PC Companion and if the problem is not solve then take it to Sony repair center

I'm having this issue these few days too.

I suspect it was the latest update responsible for this.

Sony never tests their updates for phone.

I uninstalled "Sony Privilege" but my phone, apparently, even in standby mode, overheats and keeps restarting.

This has been bugging me since 2 days ago.

I will be throwing away my Sony Xperia Z soon because there's just too many issues with it and this "auto-restart because I want to" feature adds on to my rage.

Also, don't bother contacting Sony support, their support is very slow and non-existent.

I sent my phone for repair the last time and it took them 2 months to repair it.

During the "reparing" period, I called up and asked for the status.

Some days they said their database was down and I remembered clearly there was a day where they said my phone is damaged because of corrosion when the reason for me sending it in was because it kept overheating and crashing.

I didn't even let it touch water.

Sony is just killing themselves, I hope this company die out faster (Sony, in-fact most Japanese companies, have been losing money like crazy and are desperate for money), even LG (which is also terrible) does better than Sony.

I keep to the fact that new update might be the problem, but the only problem was that I couldnt remove the notification for update so at last I did it. Otherwise I dont like updating my phones as they often got problematic.

I'll consider taking to the service as If the phone is the problem I'd rather change it for new one.

I got strance feeling that when I turned on the Stamina mode, some how the processor started to heat again, even during music listening. I turn it off, and now no heating any more. I havent tryed the GPS navigation yet, but I'll do it soon and let you know.

By the way, the batt life is qute good, at least day and a half with internet and wifi. Stamina should be ither eliminated or improved.

Thank you anyway...

..I had very bad experiance with one Sony camera, but I'll forgive you so far.

I have the same problem on my Xperia ZL. I got the phone only 2weeks and was on holiday when at night when I'm sleeping the phone sometimes restarted.

When it's locked in my pocket, suddenly it becomes so hot, that it hurts your skin. After unlocking the screen the temp dropped or the phone started rebooting. But it never dit A shut-down, always a restart.
This problem appeared already in April so I don't think it was an update issue.

At the same time the phone began to show real usage damage to the cover.
This is how the phone looked like after 4 weeks...

Immediatly after my holliday a brought it back to the Phone House Aachen (Germany). This was on 18-05-2013. Since then I'm waiting for my phone. I also signaled that the IR Blaster learning is not working, and as mentioned here in another topic, it's a hardware issue.

The only thing they did, was saying that the damage to the housing is not covered by the Warranty.
When I refered the phone house to the Directive 1999/44/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 May 1999 on certain aspects of the sale of consumer goods and associated guarantees, where Article 5 is saying : Unless proved otherwise, any lack of conformity which becomes apparent within six months of delivery of the goods shall be presumed to have existed at the time of delivery unless this presumption is incompatible with the nature of the goods or the nature of the lack of conformity.

Until now the only reaction was that the have full confidence in W-Support GmBh. And that there conclusion was that the damage was caused by a liquid... But in the ticketting system of W-Support GmBh they doesn't say that, it's just the standard answer that scrathes and other physical damage is not covered by the warranty.

I Agree if the damage was not caused by a hardware problem like the heating problem. An as mentioned in above article they have to prove it. Last month I was back in the shop. And it he contacted W-Support, they didn't even looked at the heating problem. So how can they exclude that this was not the cause of the damage to the housing. I also contacted Sony to help me. And they sayed I have to deal this matter with the Phone House.

Meanwhile, 4 months without my 550€ phone, the heating problem is still not investigated and also the IR Blaster problem.

So be warned when buying at the Phone House, and keep in mind that also Sony is not very service minded and helpfull.
