I swear to you. This is exactly what my zr's screen looks like. I was watching a movie and it suddenly paused. I pressed the back button and saw that a line had appeared. Mine is more inconspicuous than urs. You'd have to unlock it and stare at it before you'd notice. I'm so disappointed in Sony. All my family /friends do not own a Sony phone. I was the one who ventured shall I say out of the box cause I simply like the zr. I went to my Sony centre in Lagos Nigeria after being directed from place to place. I cannot simple tell you what I've been through only to get there and they tell me it isn't covered by warranty.Haha. Funny!!!!!!!!!!. I will not be discouraged. The lady at the customer care saw my phone. "I thought u said it was cracked" cause she couldn't see the line. Upon unlocking it. She saw she couldn't move parts of the screen and she also saw the line. The look on her face was one of shock. It read "This is totally our company's fault". After a terrible attempt (I assure you I'm not exaggerating)at a poker face she told me cracked screens are not covered by the warranty. Of course they are not. But this ibdidnt crack myself. I'm not going to give up. This is my first and last Sony phone if someone doesn't fix it. And I will tweet , blog and post on my wall just how "effective" sony's "Warranty" is!.

Z3 Compact Screen cracked

My digitiser is also screwed, can only use bottom right of my screen so basically it is useless. Sorry if this has been posted previously, but does anyone have any idea how much Sony would charge for these to get repaired? I saw someone saying they were charging around £101 to repair a screen but dont know if this included digitiser. I dropped my phone from around 30cm, it's a disgrace, my Xperia T was dropped at least50 times over the 2 years I had it and the only issue I ever had was the battery which Sony replaced for free.
I know my warranty would be intact if I got it fixed through Sony, but if it's going to cost twice the price as elsewhere it's just not worth it. I know to get a definite price I'd have to send it to them I just don't want to pay £21.80 for returning my phone if the cost is too high.
Regards.

I bought my Z3C last week and after 3 days my front screnn cracked by it self.

I woke up in the morning and took my phone (not pluged in during the night). I checked my email for a minute and after that I put in the charger. I stod beside my phone for 2-3 min in the kitchen and then I looked at it to see the time. Now the glass was broken.

I read about this for the previous models Z1 and Z2 and apperantly this can happen for the Z3C.

Had my Z3C after I waited for months to get it since the news came of its release and pre-ordered it.

For no apparent reason and no fall / accident, the front screen has cracked across the length. A clean hairline crack.

I checked and there are no after market replacements available. I've created a repair order but not sure if:

1. Should I pay for it to be fixed?

2. How much will it cost?

Had anyone any responses from the service centre??

Here is the image, which is similar to what others have posted, so seems like a manufacturing defect.

Same problem here, A clean crack right across the back glass. Not sure if it will be covered by warranty. Even they do that still means I will need to get a big case for it, but the whole point of getting this phone is its compact and stylish design.

More images appear, more sure I am of the problem.

The front and back panels are glued onto the phone chassis (to make the phone waterproof). Z3C is even thinner than Z1C.

So there are Z3C phones out there with an internal pressure built-in. Once a user buys the phone and turns it on, the heat generated by the processor and circuitry causes the phone's bowels to swell and, within a few days, the pressure is released by the front or rear panel cracking by itself.

Sony have a major issue here. Not only there are phones leaving factory that are not waterproof due to poor assembly, but now we have phones out there in the boxes that come with internal pressure inside them.

I really want to upgrade to Z3C from my Z1C, but it is kind of a lottery, actually. Will I get a piece with no internal pressure causing the panel to crack?

If the device cracked by itself without external forces is not covered by Sony then I am done with them. I won't even bother to get my phone fixed as that cost as it is very likely that the glass will crack again.
