Has anyone been through the repair process with SONY and able to give me an idea as to the cost?

I went through O2 and they've quoted me £229 which seems rather excessive.

Yeah that price seems about right. But like you say it's kind of ridiculous. When any guy on a high street will happily do it for £60. Obviously warranty issues will be a factor Taking that path. But I bet the quality of workmanship is the same. But as a corporation if you want to keep the warranty. They can charge what they want. Ps it's relatively easy to do yourself if warranty isn't an issue. Ie if it's insured

Hi, i work as an IT-Technician mostly on hardware (Desktops/laptops and cellphones)., so i know a bit about this since i send Sony phones only to an autorized repair shop. In Norway it cost approx £200 to change the screen on Xperia Z3. This is at an autorized repair shop, and when you break you screen, you basically loose your warranty when this happens. If you choose to use an autorized repair shop you will keep your warranty. They will also perform an pressure test after screen replacement to assure its still water proof, and they will change all the tapes and rubber seals if necessary. If you choose to do it your self you can easely break something else on the phone, and you cant pressure test it. If its not water proof anymore after you change the screen yourself or somebody else and the water gets inside, you will lose your warranty. If you then decide to send it to the repair shop they will know its your fault because they will peform a pressure test on the device. If this fails, you will loose your warranty and you have to cover the cost your self to fix it. I

will end this by saying that the autorized repair shop dont charge what they want (Maybe unautorized repair shops will do) because first of all they only use original spare parts, and the cost is standard prices on the marked, and of course this have to be approved by Sony. Just so you all know.

The point I was making is that even replacing the screen the rubbers, performing pressure test etc.. Unless the glass panel cost almost £100 labour costs are extremely exaggerated. But the same goes for most things these days...thanks for the info

I've been told that Xperia care charge roughly £120 for a screen replacement of the z3 6603, defo worth it to keep the warranty and have an official part

I explored all the options and decided to go through Carphone Warehouse who are sending the phone to be repaired by Sony at a cost of £169.99.

Still rather expensive but the cheapest option I could find that retains full warranty for the device. I found one phone shop that offered to do it for £90 but all other third party shops were quoting around £150 so all in all the price from Carphone Warehouse seems the best.

Many thanks for all the replies especially Hewlett who has pretty much confirmed everything that I found out myself.

I have sent my phone to Sony a Z3 the front screen is coming away and there is a couple of cracks on the rear. They quoted £78 to fix.

I got my new Sony Xperia Z3 Compact in July and the screen broke earlier this week, so I came on this forum to read others experiences and get some ideas as to what to do.

It was with interest I read the information about warrenties and authorized repair shops as I'd rang Carphone Warehouse's "Geek Squad" who are a Sony approved and authorized repairer and enquired about the staus of the original 2 year Sony warrenty which initially covered my phone if I had them carry out the repair, they told me the following:

The 2 year Sony warrenty which covered all manufactures faults will be invalid, you will be covered by Geek Squads 90 warrenty for this repair, but the original manufactures warrenty will be void!

I can get a repair done for £90.00 which also comes with a 90 day guarentee so it seems there's little to be gained by having it sent away and waiting up to 14 days when I can drop this in and pick it up again in 24 hours?!?! 😕

After dropping my phone today and the front screen smashing, im looking into getting it replaced. I didn't get my phone through carphone warehouse, i got it from 3 so am i still able to go to geek squad and get a repair?

I don't normally post on blogs, but I hope this might help others who are in the position I was a few weeks back.

I dropped my Z3 a few weeks back smashing the screen at the top.

After a number of online searches to get an estimate of an official repair price and getting nowhere for a rough price, I was left scared off by a return fee of £25 from Sony if I rejected the quote.

I took it in to a local mobile repair shop on my high street and was quoted £100 to replace the screen, it took a week for the parts to come in and then when it was repaired and returned to me, it seemed like the screen wasn't stuck down properly, I could see a thin line of light coming through from around the edges and the screen seemed "bouncy". I took it back, they added more adhesive and next day it seemed fine, only for the same issue to happen again. This time it was worse, and I have to confess, I tried to push the screen back in place too hard and it cracked again, cheap thin glass..... idiot....

Bit the bullet, sent it to Sony, courier collected, it took 7 days and barely any communication from Sony along the way apart for the quote for the work after 4 days, but just got the phone back today, they replaced the external case surround, the front and back glass, the battery and the earpiece for:

FULL REFURBISHMENT
Your device has a damaged display and external damages. To have your device restored to its original appearance, we must replace the damaged parts.

97.61 GBP

The Cost is Kinda Ok .. But Service Round time is Horrible.. and their suppoort speakers are not Great includng Escalation Team

Be sure to use the Courier pick up service..

IN UK Free post takes 5 Buisness days which is not mentioned yet they charge for shipping(7 days in my case) Distance to service center was just 70 miles

Time taken to raise he Quote after inspection is 5 Working days and repair further time depending on parts avaialability.. and shipping back was 2 working days ..

In all i was without a phone for 3 weeks

As far as Repair is concerned it was great. they fixed the screen and its still water and dust certified. I hope sony takes note to improve the turn arround time and is more transparent with the process

My front screen is cracked and half of it isn't responsive, I want to send it to Sony to retain the waterproof rating, how much will it cost? Or can someone else from the high street do it and keep the waterproof rating? Please help! Thanks

I Dropped mine on sunday, it landed face down and i knew it was going to be broken.
All the corner of the screen was cracked and there was a moon shaped crack on the bottom of the screen which meant only half of my screen was responsive.
Processed the return on sunday night and it was collected monday morning by DPD.

This is what iv'e been quoted today, fingers crossed hoping to have the phone back next week!

Fantastic, just what i wanted to know.
I dropped mine some months ago chipping the corner and cracking the rear glass, I took it to a local shop for repair, he charged £20 but the work was sub standard. The replacement glass he used did not have an NFC antenna affixed to the inside as the official ones do, so I lost that funcitonality, within 2 hours of getting the device back the panel was cracking again because they hadn't mounted it securely so even the tinyest amount of pressure caused it to break. I took it back and complained, they gave me back my £20 and addmitted that due to the sealed/waterproof nature of the Z3 they weren't able to do an "as original" repair (funny they didnt tell me this first time when they wanted to take my money).
Anyway I've bitten the bullet and returned to sony, I'm happy to pay around £150, I hope mine wont be as much as yours given that my screen is actually fine.

The procedure shown is a disassemby but... for curiosity, is there any way to assemble it back preserving water seals? In the pics they seem broken when the back cover is removed. I wonder why they didn't use an o-ring like those in watches, it would've been more practical, but obviously most likely screws should have been needed...
