Black screen at/after Update to lollipop at language selection

Hello, I got some problem after installing the lollipop Update yesterday. (Or at least i think it was completed...) The last message i saw was installing NFC

When I boot up i get that nice wavy animation but then it goes completely black for anything but the top bar with wifi etc.

In this state I have only control via the power button, so i can call up the menu to reboot or to shut down.

when i fiddle arround with the power button (screen on and off) it sometimes flashes the screen with what looks like the language selection screen.

Help would be very appreciated.

Welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines

This is really unfortunate, in such a case I can only really advise that you try a software repair to try reload the software on the device. I have supplied the details below.

1. Before you start you have to download the PC Companion software from PC Companion
and install it on your PC.
2. Once installed on your PC, double-click the PC Companion icon on your desktop to start the update.
Note! For some models you will be prompted to do a backup prior to the update and then restore.
3. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
4. Phone Software Update.
5. Start.
6. Repair Phone
7. Continue
8. Accept data removal
9. Next
10. Wait for prepare
11. Select Phone
12. Follow the connection steps

The same problem occured after update.

PC Companion does not help, it can't connect to phone, memory is not accessible.

I tried the steps you wrote down multiple times and only got to step 10 where I got an Error Message 11, something about no being able to execute the update components.

It happens at the end of the step after downloading the update from the internet, which was thankfully only required once.

That's rather disappointing since I didn't even got to where connecting the phone is neccessary.

Both update engine and PC Companion are not blocked by my firewall, so I don't really know what I shall try next.

I should also mentioned that like for xarni, the phone cannot be directly connected since unlocking is right now not possible.

For now I ignored that message by clicking x.

Let's see how far we get

Hello all. I'm having similar problems as I tried to install the new update (yesterday) and now the phone is not responsive at all (No SIM, no mods and in the US). Computer can't access the phone nor can I directly. When push the power button to access the phone, the pic below is what I get before the phone quickly turns off. And those are the actions I'm limited to....Any help is much appreciated. (Sorry mods I didn't see this earlier, thanks).

Same problem, i tried using sony companion but cant connect for memory not ready. I tried hard reset pressing volum up and power, but nothing... i don't know how to fix...

i am having the same exact problem. blank screen after upgrading lollipop on sony z ultra, 6806. Cannot connect to PC Companion because i cannot unlock the phone because of the blank screen.

when i power off, it gives option to power off, restart, take screenshot, and video record. the video record app comes up if choose that option.

please help. i need this phone operational asap!!

Same problem after the lollipop update. Black screen. Occ can see the language screen but very briefly. Anyone know the solution...???

Serveral days later...

I tried the same steps again and at the preparing phase, a new file was downloaded (took some time). After that the repairing process went without problems. Right now my phone just booted up for the first time, which took some time. However it works now.

Sadly all my personal data is gone, but it was mentioned during the process that this will happen.

I hope for that you all you did a backup using the PC Companion before attempting the update. I know that my backup is a bit older then I'd like it to be.

While it sure is not the absolute best solution, it is one that i can live with.

Also to those who think it won't work you because can't access the memory, the repairing process has its own way to break that rule.

Can you explain us what you did? Did you use the companion? The hard reset? Vodoo?

Ok, first if you haven't install the the PC companion

Start the companion and click on Support zone.

Note: At this point the phone is not needed to be connected pther wse you get that annoying popup about the unaccessable memory

Next click the upper left option of the 4 options (phone/tablet - Software update)

Inside the new window click on repair phone/tablet. After that you have to select the device. I actually don't know how it works if you haven't connected the phone before however there is an option to to select other devices so that should be the way to go. For me it was already listed there.

Next you should get serveral warnings about losing your data. activate the checkbox and click contine and afterwards some data will be downloaded.

At this point the top bar should be saying preparing or something like that...

If everything goes well you are asked to connect the phone. first connect the usb cable to the pc and than hold volume down while connecting the phone.

You can release volume down when the the next step is started.

the rest goes pretty much on its own.

try this: connect to PC Companion and at the step where it asks you to unlock the phone, there's a little link that says "Repair Phone." click that and follow steps. it will completely wipe your phone and lose all internal data, but it works.

Just downloaded and installed the new update to my Ultra & now I can't even get into my phone! It starts up and boots normally and once its finished loading you can push the power button but only the backlight comes on as well as the notification bar. If you hold the power button a menu does pop up but thats inly for power off/reset/take screenshot etc.

I've tired starting the phone in safe mode but the same issue still persists. PC companion won't connect to the Ultra either so I can't manually try to reupdate the phone.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?!

i followed the steps and still it is still black screen and after i lock it for 5 seconds then open it the language selection pops out and it turns out to be black screen what should i do 😞
