Hello everybody

My Xperia Z3 is now 1 month old. I've washed it today the first time, and after 5min, nothing worked anymore. After 30min the phone vibrated for 5min, and then died completely.

I have closed all the closures!

And this isn't the first time, with my old Xperia Z, I've had the same problems. Is Sony so incopetent that tey can't build a waterproof smartphone???

Has anyone the same problem?

That is not normal. The device is IP68 and IP65 certified, which means waterproof over 1m and 30 mins. You could let a sony service check your device:

Thank you, I'm gonna do that, but it makes me very angry because it's allready the second time that something like that happens. If this goes on like that, the Z3 is definitly the last Sony-Smartphone for me!

Hi,

I'm sorry about the problem you've found. I myself have the Xperia Z device (bath many times.. without problem) and currently I'm using Xperia Z3C on the same condition without problem as well. Would you mind let me know how did you wash your phone. I'm sure it's not resistant to soap or salt water. Under pure water or chlorinated one would be fine even the water is running from a tap or showering bulb.

The problem isnt that the device isnt waterproof out of the box. But the frame is to weak and easily twisted. When you twist the phone to much. in a tight pants for example the glue at the back will crack. after that the phone wont be waterproof anymore.

So be very carefull with your phone. one twist to hard on the chassis of the phone and the back glue will break of the frame and water will come in! I had the same problem with mine and a friend of me wich is a mobile phone reviewer demonstrated it. He tested the phone and it was waterproof, after that he took the z3 twisted the frame a few times without big force and then did the test again. after that water came in and the phone died. You can test if your phone is still water proof by twisting it just a little and listen closely if the back panel of the z3 makes any cracking sound. if it does your back panel is allready loose and the phone is NOT waterproof anymore.

I used my phone in a swimming pool and after a minute of using it died, though my notification light continued to blink and the phone was becomming extremely hot, condensation also started appearing on the flash and camera. I thought nothing at first but when I got home and charged it up I still couldn't power it on, and I believed that my phone was left on silent but I had AVG antivirus installed so I was able to try and make my phone shout. It did Shout at full volume like it would normally yet the screen was still dead. I checked the user guide and it stated that:

You can use your device:
• in dusty environments, for example, on a windy beach.
• when your fingers are wet.
• in some extreme weather conditions, for example, when it’s snowing or raining.
• in fresh (non-saline) water depths of 1.5 metres or less, for example, in a fresh water
lake or river.
• in a chlorinated swimming pool.

I previously had an Xperia Z and used it alot underwater I had no problems with it except alot of condenstation in the camera and flash. Extremely annoyed since today was the first day I've properly submerged my Xperia Z3 and I' ve only had it for over a month.

I also found someone with same problem: http://www.abc.net.au/technology/articles/2014/10/08/4102877.htm
