Hi all,

Has anyone else experianced the sudden death on the Z3?

Woke up this morning to find the handset turned off, and the only way to get it back was the 3 button trick. This is a first for me, but I know that it was an issue on the Z and an update was released as a fix among other things.

Anyone else then?

Hi.

I just had that problem with my all new Z3. (Sudden death) That **bleep** when you dont know what to do, and brand new phone. (What happend?)

I went to this site and I got so happy when it turned on after I pressed the 3 buttons So I want to thank you so much "malt1977" for learning me this. But I think this shall not be happening with all new phone...

XZ3, you're welcome. It was a shock for me to find the handset like this when I woke up. Luckily though, I sell phones for a living and had a good idea what to do, but even so I hope it was only a one off.

Hi,

When I woke up this morning I found my Z3 Dual sim to be countinously rebooting. After this had been keeping for a long time, I managed to use the two button tip and managing to shut it of.

I found the fix and held down power + down and up volume. It vibrated a 3 times but nothing happening. Did it again a few times and nothing happend. Tried it again a few times and now it has gone to sudden death mode..

Black screen, nothing is happening. All attempts on trying to do a hard reset is failing.

Stopped by my local Sony store, but I only had 20 minutes, thus never got any service.

Any ideas?

Hi,

I stopped by the store and they tried all the various tips and also connecting it through repair tool.
Phone was dead.
Sent for service and I'm stuck with low end Sony replacement.

Not that impressed with lifetime of 2 weeks 3 days before it died. It was also passed the local regulation of 2 weeks before they would give a new phone without sending it for service for 2-5 weeks.

I know it's a pain, but retailers need to draw a line somewhere. Personally i'd exchanged it as it was only just over, especially as most distributors offer a 30 DOA process.

But those problems aside. WHen getting the new phone and inserting the memory card I get an error that the memory card is malfunctioning (could not be read) and had to be reformatted.

This happened also through the process when the phone died. This is even more annoying as most of my back ups are on the memory card. Fortunatly I only lost 2 week 3 days worth of data, exlcuding what is updated to onedrive.

Any idea best way to repair and get the data back?

Tried the card in a few different phones with same results.

Also tried win 8 tablet without change. My memorycard reader did not read the memorycard.

Got the same issue no later than yesturday.

The phone was right into my hand, I was typing a mail when the screen went to full black (but phone was still powered on).

I pressed the reset buton with no results... So I pressed the combo power down + volume up to reboot the phone. The phone vibrated once, powered off and never powered on back. Now, I cant power on the phone, the phone does not charge either if pluged on a wall or a PC, the led has no response. The pc does not detect the device wether or not I'm using PC Companion.

I let it pluged for more than 12 hours without any results, exept that battery being quite warm.

OFC the trick "Power on/off + volume up or down" is completely useless as well as the reset button next to the sim slot.

I've been using the phone for merely a week...

I'm getting quite fed up and unlucky, as I had to order the phone twice (first one was stolen by the French post office during delivery - thought Sony wasn't responsible for this...).

Anyway Now I have to drive a whole hour to go the shop because of an issue Sony has offically cleared a year earlier on previous phone of the Z series...

I switched from a HTC One M8 to the Z3 due to battery problems and bad camera on the HTC. The sony worked perfectly for the 2 weeks and 3 days I had it. Pity that such an annoying software issue ruines an otherwise super unit.

However, would pick it again and hope I got one that actually works.

You may need to perform a software repair using PC companion. The process will erase all internal memory. You might need to charge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 60% battery.

Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device).

Open PC companion->support zone->phone/tablet software update->repair my phone/tablet blue highlighted.Follow the steps given,do not connect your phone until prompted to press volume down while plugging USB cable. If PC companion does not start the repair process, you might need to run it in compatibility mode with Windows 7 (in some cases XP).
