Xperia ZL, IR-Blaster doesn't seem to work with Remote Control App

Hello everyone.

A week ago I bought the xperia zl phone and I tried to also use the pre installed "Remote Control" App to use the built in Infrared blaster. I can't make it work though. What I did is:

- I manually installed two deviceds (projecter / av receiver).

- Through the remote control software I programmed some keys in holding the original remote of the device in front of the infrared blaster of the ZL. The Remote Control App told me that it 'Learnt the command'. I then saved everything and tried to use the programmed button but both deviced don't react. It seems the infrad signal is not sent out.

- I also tried to hold the infrared blaster of the zl really close to the deviced - still no reaction.

Do I miss something? Does infrared have to be switched on seperately? I checked in the apps and all Remote Control Apps / Service seem to be running.

I did uninstall / disable some sony apps before but I don't think I disabled relevent apps for the remote control to work....

Anyone having the same problem? or a solution ?

experia Z does not have IR port as far as I'm aware, I use a network to control my sammy TV with an android app

Right, Z doesn't, but ZL does. Sony also has a 'Remote Control' App pre installed for that purpose.

not sure I can help you with it as I have no experience of that function

someone I'm sure will be along

if you have another phone with a camera or a digital camera handy you can check to see if the phone is outputing a signal by viewing it through the camera - you will see it light up

Thanks for the advice, I will definitely do that to see, whether there is an infrared output or not. Will inform you all about the result.

So, here is what I found out: There is only a visible signal when I use the presettings of a random device from the list. As soon as I use a key which I progranmed manually there is no signal. Problem I have now: the devices I have are not in that list

I tested this also and it seems there's a problem with learning new codes, i get the same problem as you. I will escalate this.

I called Sony India helpline but they told that they have no information regarding remote control app please check this issue as update the app as soon as possible we All will be tthankful

Hi ... i did some searching on the internet and found this logitech forum http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Harmony-Remotes-Programming/IR-Command-Learned-But-Not-Working/td-p/226082 they have a RAW mode in their learning device.... anyone seen this function in our ZL ?

I am also having the same issue. The phone says it has learned the new codes but they do not work. Selecting devices from the pre-programmed list function properly. Is there any updates on this?

It seems like someone marked the topic as solved! - It is not!

I'm still highly interested in a solution!

The IR blaster is one of the main features why I bought that phone, and the software doesn't work properly. Does Sony wants everyone to wait for a software from an independent developer? Or are you working on that? Maybe the support could say something about their progress?!

btw.: I do get an IR signal when I press a manual configured button (i can see the light), but I can not control any of my devices. And yes, it works with some presets.

Also still interested in a solution... waiting for sony to provide an update to their remote control app. I keep my hopes up, but I believe it will take them a while.

Same counts for me.

I tried to learn codes for my receiver (Lexicon MC12) and beamer (Epson TW5000).

App tells me that code is learned, shows later that is sends something, but it does not work...

This has been investigated and in case you have this problem the phone needs to be repaired or replaced by a service location.

Is it software or hardware problem? If it's software, can it be fixed with firmware update? Since due to the discussions on different forums and reviews, pretty big number of ZL's if not all (C6503, C6502, C6506) sold up to date are affected by this problem and there's no one who could successfully use learnt IR codes. Is this IR learn feature confirmed to be functional on other ZL's and which ones (manufacturing week, model number, firmware version, etc)?
