I have noticed problems with the charging of my phone. It takes too much time for the phone to charge so I thought why not replace the charger with higher output current. So I have replaces the charger of 1.5A with 2.3A but have kept the power cord same. I wish to know whether this would cause any damage to my device or battery in the long time

That means the device will charge faster,be careful at what output the 2nd adapter has (it shouldn't have more than 5 V).

Exceeding the recommended amps will reduce the battery life and although 1.5 to 2.3 may not sound much but in terms of a phone it is and charging to fast or exceeding the recommended amps can damage your phone ie:overloading fuses etc - If it were me then I wouldn't do it and would rather buy a new plug or use a USB port on a Pc

I think they are the same but some countries call it an EP881 instead of an EP880 - I assume that based on the output and from what other sites say the difference is because of the plug pin fitting
