I was trying my new z3 compact underwater and each time I put it underwater the camera stopped and it defaulted back to the homescreen. Why would the camera stop?

Probably because the buttons are being pressed. You must lock the screen so that water does not touch the screen. You can use the shutter button to take pictures. In order to lock the screen, open the camera app, press the options button, select the 3rd option (the one with the tools picture on it) scroll down and activate touch block.

Good luck and make sure all your flaps are closed:)

Just curious: Have you recorded long 4k videos underwater? I've read that after about 4.5 minutes of recording 4k video (not underwater) that the camera shuts down due to overheating. I'm wondering if being in a liquid would enhance cooling enough to allow a longer video recording time.

Unfortuneatly I also Have an issue with WATERPROOF(resistance). I have owned the phone for just over a week and decided to check out the waterproof phone i recently purchased, so i filled my sink then placed it in. Would of only been under for a minute no longer. YES all covers were sercurly shut checked twice, after i dried the phone my screen was not only flickering but no longer touch sensitve. I had to reset from that tiny button next to sim card reader, yeap sure enough water ingress. so i left it over night. My phone works to a point, it likes to lock its self periodically while in use, screen will still dim and flicker by itself, but I and most concerned about my screen..... I sounds like it is lifting when i touch it firmly (cleaning) it actually moves a little and sounds tacky/sticky. As if it wants to stick down, I Had a simular issue with my Iphone 5 But only after replacing the screen, phone surgen never replaced all screws so the day i got it back it came unstuck. Obviously this isnt the issue here only the IP rating..... which **bleep** as this was the selling point for me DUST and WATERPROOF factor.

Talking with Manufacture ATM, will be going in to the store of purchase tomorrow to see what they have to say..

I've had the exact same issue. The z3 is definitely less waterproof then the z1. The issue is condensation / fog that seaps into the camera.

I've had / have exact same issue with z3. Even if the phone gets splashed from rain, fog and condensation will build up within the device and cause other malfunctions like charging will no longer work.

The z1 yes, is more waterproof but still prone to issues relating to water. I'm sadly a z1, z3 and z2 even purchaser. I was constantly given hope of a better device year on year.
