I can recreate similar behaviour here on the forum using Z2 Tablet but can't figure out a root cause of it. It looks exactly as in your movie when hitting backspace and keyboard is looking for words to display. But this behaviour is related to Google Chrome. For me it doesn't happen in other apps like FB Messenger. I guess Google screwed up something within it's API that collides with Xperia Keyboard.

Hey everyone,

Im having some very anoying keyboard lag on my Z3. I read some things about it on the internet and it seems to be caused by the down scaling of the CPU. in wich the keyoard isnt reacting like it should.

I made a video of it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uPIpjHitYyI&list=UUl3BUH8my0Z6KLFjzr-QkrA

Maybe there should be an option in the settings to manually set the CPU to not throttle down when using the keyboard. or give it some more power. Its pretty annoying the lag.

Sometimes its so slow it registers swypes instead of keypresses because of the delay.

I know the phone will hold 2 days of battery life and i can easily hit the 9 hours screen on time with 24 hours of standby with it. But i surely wouldnt mind one hour less screen on time if the keyboard would actually work...

Its a pain using the keyboard right now.

No it isnt working at all. Even typing here gives a huge lag especially when using backspace or changing words. This has nothing to do with cache. Its a keyboard vs cpu problem. This great battery seems to come with a price... The cpu is obviously skrewed down while using the browser. And i dont like it.... So fix it! The z3 is useless this way. The longer this text is becoming the more lag im allready getting here now. This is insane... Only a few lines of text in a textbox is doing this... How the **bleep** did this even get through the test phase of the software. Try it yourself type this text im writing now in the chrome browser of your z3 type some more and press 5 times backspace fast after eachother. I bet you 100 dollars on it the z3 will only delete 2 characters. Its not my unit... The software is lagging

Yeah well the z2 tablet isnt the z3... also tried this with the note 2 and the xoom tablet. But it seems the z3 has some over extended battery savings wich causes the cpu to not govern up when needed. It seems related to the swype function and the text prediction wich needs allot of computing power wich the kernel is not allowing to. This gives the insane lag in the keyboard. You can blame chrome... but this is the only device having the problems. So sony better fix the problem.

I can also tell you the lag is in long texts in facebook and whatsapp too. Its less of a problem wich thirdparty keyboards though. I use thumbkeyboard right now wich gives allot better experience then the stock keyboard.

I do keep wondering why manufacturers never seem to admit their mistakes and just freaking fix them instead of always blaming something else. Wanna know why people domt buy sony products.... start supporting your darn customers. And listen to them.

Im going a long way back in computers and handhelds i sure as hel know what im talking about. And im telling everyone. The keyboard on the z3 is broken.

Ps. The reason why longer texts are causing more lag, is because all words that are typed have secondary words of miss typed. And are all saved. Type a long text with a misspelled word in the beginning. Then at the end press the word. He will still remember what you typed. This is why long texts are more laggy... altough the z3 is more then powerfull enough the powersaving of the z3 is a pain on the keyboard...atleast let people choose to have a smooth experience or not.

I allready regret buying this **bleep**ty device... i should have stayed with samsung and buy the note 4 now i have this pain in the as z3 for 2 years lagging ma as off everytime i typ some text...great! I

sincerely regret buying this device i really hope the keyboard gets fixed.

Also the battery indicator is messed up. When it saying its full and get it of the charger it will drop 10% in less then 30 min use. Charge it for an hour longer after the device says its full and it will keep 100% the first 30 min of use. So its telling users its full too soon. And keeps charging after 100%

Swiftkey works allot better indeed. I also see hiccups in that keyboard thought. Especially when typing this here. The sounds of the key presses is sometimes strange too now when typing this like the sound is trying to keep up. I really don't know what's wrong with the z3. Even if there is a keyboard that actually works on this device then still should Sony fix their own one...

Dear Johan its been 3 weeks. no word from sony.

I have been testing the issue and i found out that the lag is caused by the autocorrection function. it still presists when only suggestions are shown but not corrected. If the autocorrect/ auto suggestion is fully turned off the lag is minimal but still there.

I understand the autosuggestion needs calculating power wich the Z3 software isnt giving due to battery saving i guess. I understand that... but the lag should be seen in the auto correction/suggestion function. not in the actual typing. Its very annoying when you have typed something and with backspace it has a terrible lag.

You can best test it with the vibrate keypress on. If you press backspace 15 times fast aftert eachother after typing something you will notice even the vibrating isnt keeping up. And it hangs sometimes giving a larger and longer vibrate instead of seperated ones....

Sony you really have to fix this issue. These things are issues seen on cheap samsung devices wich cost 50 dollar... this really should NOT happen with a device with a Qualcomm 801 CPU.

There is really something messed up in the autocorrection option using chrome.

But also on all other apps like whatsapp i mention hickups in wich for a second or two sometimes when you typ nothing comes up on the screen and after 2 seconds the whole bunch yout typed shows up at once with a big vibrate. Something is surely messed up. When using the Z3 its almost like i am using a budget phone with this lag.

i think i have found a part of the problem. maybe it is the problem. I was just typing on a website and again had some insane lag. I was typing a word but the word was misspelled. So i touched the place where i wanted the cursor in the middle of the word. i removed a character and typed the right one. But that isnt working!! THe character i removed jumped back in place and the character i wanted to add there was added at the end of the word.

There is some kind of strange bug in the autocorrect keyboard settings thats causing this. It seems that it happens when backspacing. This way the word get underlined. the moment the word gets underlined the lag starts and you cannot change a character in the middle of that word until you press spacebar and the underlining goes away.

Please look into it.

Did some more testing. I installed 3 more browsers,

Dolphin browser

Opera

Firefox

After some tests i found out that Both the Dolphin browser and Firefox do not give the lag. Opera and the preinstalled chrome do.

All apps like facebook and whatsapp are fine. except for a few hickups now and then.

This could mean that the sony software is recognizing the browsers and throttle's down the CPU to perserve battery making the keyboard lag. Or the firefox and dolphin browser are handeling the autocorrect and autofinish better wich gives no hickups. However i dont have any hickups or lag with my old samsung note 2 wich is allot faster with the keyboard. Shutting down autocorrect and autofinish completely makes the lag go away

Nontheless i would really want to use chrome... and it would be great if the browser didnt lag that much.

For example, When I try to delete a sentence by holding the backspace words get reinserted into a different place or just reappear after I have deleted the word, which causes alot of errors.

Sorry if this explanation isn't clear but it's hard to explain the problem. It's kinda like the keyboard has a mind of its own it deletes a letter in random places or reinserts a word that I deleted.

In certain text boxes in the browser I'm experiencing a really annoying issue, basically when I type a bunch of stuff in then make a mistake and start using the backspace key to erase, stuff that I perviously typed comes up in place of stuff I erased. It happens even now that I'm typing here. What's up with this issue? Any way to fix? I noticed it happens more often when I use swype typing. Stock keyboard on stock Xperia Z3.
