Update does not progress past Step#2

I've tried and tried, but PC Companion won't get past Step#2, after following all the instructions.

This update is from 14.2.A.1.136 to 14.3.A.0.681

1. Start -> Accept

2. Prepare ... Checking the phone... Phone turns off.

a. Unplug

b. Connect USB

c. Press + hold volume down key and insert USB

3. Phone flashes red, then green, then off... and nothing happens... for minutes...

Phone is not updated: so, what can I do?

hmm.. What I do is power on the phone. Connect the phone with pc. using the Sony pc companion direct update. I dint power of my phone and press volume - button during my phone update.

Hope this can help or wait for more senior user to explain and help out.

I know all I had to do was ask / post....

I tried a new USB port (3rd one)... and software installed and off it goes!

Problem solved -- well, moved to Step#3: Update.
