No problem, glad it is sorted. It would be worth checking the Playstore for updates to any and all of the installed apps in this circumstance just to preempt any other issues.

I too have had problems with extreme overheating and phone "locking itself up" after the 4.4.4 update, the phone was almost too hot to touch!...not sure I can put it down to instagram as it is an app I don't use! O2 have sent the phone for an expert to look at as the O2 guru looked very perplexed!...shame as I have been very happy with it up until this!

I usually check for apps that drain the battery (and are a prime suspect for overheating) in the Power Settings:

Settings > Power management > Battery usage

The apps showing on top are consuming the most power.

I do have the suspicion that when you are charging the phone, the readings are not accurate.

I get the best results by disconnecting the charger, let it run for a minute and check.

I have a problem with Google+ and the Picasa uploader.

Once I kick them from the cache, power consumption gets back to normal for me.

You can kick them from the cache here:

Settings > Apps > Swipe to Running > Click on Show cached process > scroll to the app and click on it to stop it

I have the suspicion there is a background task that goes through my photos and is choking on the close to 1000 photos I have on my SD card.

Right, my phone was fully charged when I left home this morning at 7:30 and as I write this (11:05) its showing 42%, which isn't too bad I guess because I've used the phone quite a bit today but earlier I thought the phone was going to catch fire! It was so hot that it was almost to hot to handle... this can't be good for the phone or me can it

In Power Management > Battery Usage was showing Android System as using 47% battery! I've always had the screen showing as using the most battery at on or around 20%. Something was obviously not right? I've just checked and Android System is now down to 33% (its still never been higher than the screen %) and the phone is cool to the touch.

Any ideas?

MIne's started overheating too, but only since the 4.4.4 update. Battery going quicker and loads hotter than ever before at times. I don't think i've added any new apps recently either?

Edit - battery use shows Android System has used 45% recently, as someone else mentioned

Trev

Yep, all sounds very familiar... hot, bad battery life and a high percentage of system resources being used by the Android system...

I've discharged and charge a few times since my last post and I have to say, things have really settled down quite nicely. I don't think the battery lifes as good as 4.3 but its okay. I've had no more heat issues since and the Android System is showing 12% at present. My advice is to hang in there, discharge/charge a few more times and see how you get on.

Thinking about it, I might have completely switched off and reset (from standby; volume up and the power button until you feel 3 vibrations) at least once since updating - maybe that helped too? Worth a try :smileysmileywink:

Regarding the overheating: Have you tried a restart and/or reset (using the hidden button under the micro sim flap)?

Regarding the duplicate photos: It may just be a matter of changing the album version (older or newer version). The workaround using. nomedia files did the trick for me.
