Hi, I had just opened Firefox on my Z1 Compact and entered Youtube when suddenly the back torchlight turned on by itself - I don't know if I accidentally touched something but I doubt I did as there doesn't seem to be any hotkey for turning the torchlight on outside of the camera, which by the way wasn't open when this occured. I was unable to turn the torchlight off, opening the camera app resulted in a "Camera not available" message, and clearing the cache/data of the camera app didn't help either. I had to restart my phone for the light to turn off. I haven't been able to replicate this since.

Any idea what happened here? I must mention that I managed to drop my phone the other day (after having owned it for only a day or so...), but it didn't fall far and the drop wasn't very hard either, and I didn't notice any visible damage on the exterior nor any other oddities so far apart from this torchlight thing. Also this is my first smartphone, is it normal that built-in apps and features misbehave like this sometimes, even when the unit is so new?

Yes I'm sure I didn't click on anything unusual, even if I did I fail to see how clicking on an ad would "hijack" part of my phone, maybe if it was on some suspicious website, but not Youtube.

Okay thanks. Maybe I'm just paranoid I messed up my new phone already due to dropping it. On another note, there should really be a built-in feature to turn on the torchlight anytime...

You should have an app called torch(or you can find one on google play).

I think I found out what caused this... the app "Clean Master" I had installed (to clean the cache and free up RAM and whatnot) apparently also had a torch function, which was available from the quick-menu thing that you swipe down from the top (don't know the proper term for it), which I didn't even notice before now. I guess as I still hadn't become completely familiar with the use of a touch screen, I accidentally swiped the menu down and hit the torch function when I tried to open Youtube or something. Activating the torch this way even results in the same "not available" message when trying to open the camera.

I'Ve been searching a long time for instructions re the Xperia XA flashlight ever since I turned it on accidentally. Could not find any info other than to install an ap. But have now discovered that if you swipe your home screen diagonally from top right to bottom left you can get flashlight option. Touch the torch to turn on/off.
