Noticing the corners are really soft. Doesn't matter if I use Manual mode or Superior Auto. I previously had an iPhone 4S and used the camera to take photos of documents and receipts for record keeping. I never noticed the corner softness of images as bad as I do with the Xperia Z1.

Is this considered normal? I'm a little disapointed considering Sony touts the quality of the camera on the Z1 with its 1/2.3" sensor size and Sony G lens.

Image attached was taken using Manual mode at 20MP, straight out of camera (except resized for forum). Focus was set right in the center. Center is sharp, but looks really bad in the corners.

Upload your picture or pictures to box.com and post the links here as we can't see them, also elaborate on "soft corners". Do you have a protective case or an additional protective film?

By soft corners, I mean the image is sharp at the center and gets progressively blurred towards the corners of the image.

Here is link to image on Box.com: https://app.box.com/s/kduqqsyvnqecb1s0q12k

Also took photo of same document using my Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 and the corner softness is not nearly as bad: https://app.box.com/s/wokr58ni09agwx6h2mvl

Which camera settings do you have?

Try manual at 8mp > HDR on > you can change the metering

I was using Manual mode, 20MP, Auto ISO, Image Stabilizer on, Flash off, center focus. I did try 8MP with HDR on and it didn't help with the corner softness. This has to be related to the lens on the Z1. A shame considering the high quality cameras and lenses Sony is capable of producing.

Hi uliwooly,

Do you really not experiencing this? I am experiencing this problem since i bought this phone. Can you post a photo showing us that your Z1 does not have this problem?. Thank you.

Yes it is because of the lens...the aperture is small so that's not a surprise to find an image is blurred around the corner. If you own a dslr, it's easier to understand

Hello there. I also suffer from the same camera issue. I would suggest you download lgCamera, and use manual focus instead of automatic focus available in the stock camera application.
