clock missing from screensaver options android 7.1.1

I want to use my phone as a clock when charging especially as I often charge overnight. I have Googled everywhere which states that other phone manufacturers still have this as an option on Android 7 so where has it gone?

Hi @bxcp;

Try:

From your Home screen, tap .
Find and tap Settings > Display > Screen saver.
Tap the slider to enable the function.
Select "Weather and news" (it has also a clock).

That is not an option I have in screensaver.

In that case try download from Google Play the "Google News and Weather" app.

If you want you can also try downloading the "Alpha Clock" (aclock) app because it also ads a clock to the screensaver options.

I really liked the look of aclock. I downloaded it...however it forced me to have it as my wallpaper......I didn't want this. And despite being set for screensaver it just displays a black screen....help?

That might be a problem as the aclock is a wallpaper, have you tried in the settings of the aclock set the "change wallpaper" to off and then set your preferred theme/wallpaper again? if that doesn't work the other work around is going to settings>apps>aclock>force stop.

Regarding the screensaver you have to wait more or less 5 seconds for the black screen become turning the image.

Hey

Neither of those work arounds worked. Screen has remained black for several minutes.

Searched for Google news and weather....only Google news app now which does give you weather at top of in app page however no option available to use it as screensaver!

The workarounds are not for the screensaver, are for not changing the wallpaper.

Regarding the screensaver for it to work besides downloading the app you need also to download some images (selected in down right menu), have you done it? I tested it now in my XZ Premium and it is working.

Regarding the Google app it is not the news app it is the news and weather app, nevertheless I have it installed in my Z5 and XZ premium I can not seem to find it in the Google Play via the browser, probably Google removed it.
