Phone shuts down

Making a call, messaging, camera etc all working fine but whenever I try to do anything using the Internet the phone shuts off after a minute or so and will it reactivate until plugged in to a charger. This is regardless of battery status and when phone comes back on it shows correct charge level. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Just to clarify, does this happen when using mobile data or wifi? Or does it happen when using both?

It happens on both, WiFi and mobile.
