Have Z3+ dual with non functional cameras and parts of OS missing since nougat update.

Attempted to Vol button down + chuck cord in to kick off the software repair, did this about 50 times over a week or so.

Every single time one of two things happens.

1. Phone shows the charging battery.

2. Phone boots into safe mode.

From reading forums i should be expecting to see a reset menu. or an option to start repair, i dont know for sure as nothing has ever popped up.

This has been tested on 3 different machines, on usb 2/3 ports with 4 different usb cabled, phone is being detected when on/plugged in.

Is there any alternate way/combo to kick this off, or any other software outside of xperia companion that has this capability.

Hello @jnzl, welcome to the forum!

I'm sorry to hear you are experiencing this with your Xperia Z3+. When you say that parts of the OS is missing, could you elaborate what parts you are referring to?

Regarding the camera in your phone, there are things you can try before you try to repair the software in your phone.

I would recommend that you try and reboot your phone to safe mode, this is to make sure no installed app is causing this behaviour as all your downloaded apps will be temporarily disabled in this mode.

I'd also recommend that you clear data for your camera app. To do so, go to: Settings > Apps > Camera > Storage > Clear data > Ok. Then reboot your device and see if it's acting in the same way. This will not affect any pictures stored in your device.

If the behavior still persists, then I'd recommend that you try to repair the software in your device. Note that you will have to download and install Xperia Companion to a computer, as well as start the repair process before you plug your phone in to the computer. You find the full instructions on how to do so via the following link.

If there is anything you'r wondering about, let me know!

Hi, I have this same problem. When trying to perform software repair, the phone just ends up booting in safe mode, and I never see the software repair screen in either companion, nor on the phone.
What is causing this ?
