Can't set up background for lockscreen

Welcome to the community!

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with setting up your wallpaper. When you are trying to do so, are you receiving any error messages as to why it isn't working?

I am also wondering how you are attempting to set up the background for your lockscreen, is it through Settings > Wallpaper or are you setting up the background up from the Album application?

Or in album
Long press on the image you want, when highlighted, press the options button top right and "use as" then select lock screen wallpaper from the options

I'm having the same problem and the option to "use as lock screen" no longer appears after the Nougat upgrade.

Right now my lock screen is blank and only shows the clock but I want to be able to set my own as I've been doing for the past few years.

How do I set my lock screen wallpaper on my Xperia Z5 Premium after upgrading to Android 7.0?

Hi @Azkuma,

That sounds strange, sorry to hear about that.

If you go to Settings > Wallpaper > Album, find the picture that you want to set as background > tap on it > "Lock screen". Does this apply the picture you chose to the lock screen of your phone?

If it doesn't, could you try taking a totally new photo and see if that works?

I am experiencing the same issue - I can't set up or change my lockscreen background due to the missing option for changing the lockscreen background picture.
I've tried it over "Settings > Background",
"Settings > Display", "Settings > Lockscreen" but nowhere is an option for changing the lockscreen background image.

I tried it, too, via going into the album app and even third party Album apps like "QuickPic" but there is still no option in their menus when selecting the image and chosing "use as..".

My device is a Z5 Compact running Android Nougat. Prior to Nougat I didn't experience this issue.

I'm looking forward to your replies.

Since lollipop I could change the background of the lockscreen with any image program like quickpick. Now with Nougat the options are missing. I can only change it through Settings > Wallpaper but the image can't be resized or cropped so the background ends ugly (decentered and only a part of the image)

Z5C on Nougat.

If you want less ugly wallpapers, get in to a Image editor, and crop the Wallpaper at 720x1280 for a Z5C

Hello everyone!

I'm sorry to hear both of you are experiencing similar behavior.

@crybz, Do you want to use one of your pictures that you have taken as background? If you do, go to Settings > Wallpaper > Album > tap on the picture that you want as lock screen background > Lock screen.

You can also do it from inside the Album application if you tap on the picture > tap on it again > 3 dots in the bottom right corner > Use as > Wallpaper (Album app icon) > Lock screen.

If you can't any of these options make sure that the Album is updated to the latest version in the Google Play store.

@ViBaYo, I'm afraid that I can't give you any support for the Quickpick application since we have not developed it. Have you been in contact with them regarding Android 7.0 and how the application is working? If you haven't I'd recommend doing so.

As @NeoBeum wrote, you can resize or crop the image using a Image editor > save the picture when you are happy with it and then add it as a wall paper in your phone.

If I recall right, in Lollipop one would right away chose what background one would like to change. Here, in Nougat, it's pretty much hidden - would be nice, if some smaller update in the future would make that userfriendly again

Hi,

Yes I am now able to set the lock screen wallpaper using Settings -> Wallpaper -> Album but this was not the method I have been using previously.

I'd simply go to album and then choose an image, press three small buttons then choose between Wallpaper, Lock screen, WhatsApp or Contacts. The Lock screen option is no longer available and this is the quickest method to change the lock screen background so I don't see why it is now only accessible via Settings->Wallpaper->Album. That's too many steps to do something which was previously only 1 or 2 maximum.

Anyway, thanks for confirming how it's done now.

I can still add a wallpaper if I go to the Album application > tap on the picture I want to use > 3 dots > Use as > Wallpaper (Album app icon) > Home screen / Lock screen / Home and lock screen.

I tested this on a Xperia Z5 / Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia X Compact with the latest software installed and an updated Album application.

Please check if your Album application is updated to the latest version and see if you that way can add a photo on the lock screen!

Hi, I tried every methods you guys have said but eventually, there is a message saying: "Cannot set up wallpaper" after I cropped and set up lock screen wallpaper. Can you help me with that?

Does this behaviour occur only with this specific picture or are you not able to set any lock screen wallpaper using another picture that is either cropped or not cropped?

If you haven't tried with another picture, please do and get back to me with how that worked out!

Issue I'm having is that I want to use a love background but the only way to set one seems to set both since there is no option to set just the lock screen or even just the home screen through the love background settings. Is there a way I'm not seeing that'll let me do that?

Hi @ReynardL, sorry to the late reply.

I'm not quite sure that I understand what you mean with love background, do you mean live wallpaper?

When you set a live wallpaper, you can choose to either have it in your home screen or your home screen and lock screen, not only the lock screen.

To set this, go to Settings > Wallpaper > Live Wallpapers > tap on Xperia or Photo slideshow > if you want to change background, tap the cogwheel > tap on the background.

Now in the top right corner you have an option called "SET WALLPAPER". Tap on this and choose either "Home screen" or "Home screen and lock screen".

Sorry about the new name, for some reason when I logged in it changed

Anyways, I don't get the option to choose home screen or home and lock, it just sets both when click "set wallpaper." I tried with the Xperia wallpaper in case it was just the live ones I was using but it did the same thing, it just sets both
