that video format would be a tad too advance for any smartphone currently. even simple 4k recording takes a lot of resources including CPU power and Battery life, not to mention the heat it would produce. you can however submit this as feedback directly to sony here---->http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/contactUs/

No AVCHD Recording Capability?

Hello all,

This post may be miscategorized since I have a Sony Xperia Z3, and not the Z3+.

My biggest pet peeve about this device is the fact that it is unable to record 4K ultra HD videos in AVCHD, or the newer XAVC-S format. I find the MP4s to be highly compressed, and a tad too noisy. If I compare it against my old Sony HandyCam HDR-XR550E whose sensor is marginally smaller at 1/2.88 inches, the HandyCam beats the Z3.

I am now planning to go for an upgrade (prefferably an XZ), but before I do so, I want to be sure that the Sony device I buy does not compromise in anyway on the camera since it is not feasible for me to carry my HandyCam everywhere I go.

My question is, can we please have Sony release a new flagship in the future which supports XAVC-S/AVCHD support, and optical image stabillization? I have been a Sony customer since the K600i, and combining these two will make Xperia devices stand out from the competition consisting of Samsungs and Apples.

Thanks.

Thank you so much for the reply! I am not a computer program specialist, but I reckon that if a HandyCam (or even the RX CyberShot) can achieve AVCHD recording with only a fraction of RAM, and processing power Sony devices have, we could probably see AVCHD/XAVC-S support coming soon only once someone on the open source Linux community optimizes Android to support the codec.

If Google can achieve this, then Sony devices with their 1/2.3" sensors have the potential to beat the iPhones, and Galaxies in the camera race.

As far as battery life is concerned, we could always take a power bank along with us, and heat production can be reduced by using more heatpipes on the SoC.
