Camera button doesn't work

I just started using my Xperia X Compact but I don't understand the physical 'camera button' on the bottom of the right side. Before I started using my new phone I immediately upgraded to the latest Android version (v7). Whenever I press the camera button while in the home screen nothing happens. When I press while the camera app is open I see this blue circel in the middle of the screen but it doesn't seem to be doing anything.

I checked the settings and at 'quick launch' I switched from "launch only" to "launch and capture". Still, nothing happens. What's going on??? Am I doing something wrong or is something broken?

do you press it all the way? could you test it in >>> safe mode

Ah yes, how silly of me. The problem was that I'm using a cover and its somewhat difficult to press it completely. Thanks for your reply.
