Another dissatisfied user here.

My past 4 phones have been Sony phones (Z-series), as I like their designs best and they're super sturdy on top of that. (Which is convenient for someone like me, who drops things all the time! No broken screens ever so far!) They're a more expensive brand out there, but well worth it with how great they are inside and outside. I've had my XZ Premium for little under a year now and can only say I am very happy with the phone itself.

HOWEVER,

Swiftkey is the absolute most terrible keyboard I've ever used. Takes up half the screen despite disabling the language and prediction options, and having the key size changed to the smallest possible setting. ON AN XZ PREMIUM, which is a pretty darn big phone!

Its Swype option of it is terrible (not that I liked using it before anyway, but still) And to my horror, this terrible app can't be uninstalled, only disabled. (I know, you could do that in the developers option, probably, but I do not feel comfortable doing that) Google Play keeps popping it up telling me it needs to update.

I ended up installing the Google keyboard from Play. It suffices, but is nowhere near as accurate or fast as the Xperia keyboard.

Honestly, anything is better than Swiftkey by a long run, and I wish that Sony gave us the option to choose the old Xperia keyboard in stead. It still exists for Chinese characters (it came preinstalled on my phone) so why not for other languages as well?

It is to my knowledge not possible to disable or uninstall the Swiftkey keyboard since it is the default keyboard of the phone. I can forward this as user feedback though.

I liked xperia keyboard much more. I understand that development of it costs but swiftkey isn't by far as beautiful and simple to use as swiftkey. Especially switching between different languages and emoticons are better in xperia keyboard. Also emoticons were more beutiful.

Ican only agree. The Xperia keyboard is a beautiful product, SwiftKey simply can't compete. Sideloading the Xperia keyboard .apk was one of the first things I did after receiving my phone. I really hope Sony will rethink the decision to discontinue it.

Yeah, that's a mystery. It has worked like a charm for me for several months now. I figure it's measure to discourage users from getting used to it, thus avoiding too much of a sh*t storm when/if it gets pulled from the store altogether. Only speculations is course, but I see no point at all otherwise.

I have had a few problems recently overheating and running out of battery, wether it was the "Google keyboard" causing the battery to run low very quickly or the hardware I am not sure, but after switching to the "Xperia keyboard" as the default, my battery is running much better, and the multi taps are reducing, I believe the google keyboard is not suitable for this phone at the moment.

The first time i switched to the Xperia keyboard the device had a much better battery life (which changed shortly after - as above), many factors could have influenced this effect (i was running in safe mode temporarily) The battery life has doubled since build # 297 so I am no longer committing such drastic changes, i would have stayed with the SwiftKey keyboard if the battery didnt drain so quickly, the keyboard is in use by all applications my only guess was the keyboard did not agree with the operating system's sleep mode (/in particular applications) so time to try another keyboard manager.
