Hello everybody,

first of all: please ignore my bad English and second: I'm not a Pro, so please excuse if my explanation is not totally well described.

If anything is unclear, please ask!

So that's the problem:

My phone stopped working while running. I can't rembember but I think it was charging at this moment and battery was definitely over 30 %.

Stupidly I couldn't restart the device. I tried many things (charging with other cable, charging from PC, let the phone charge for a longer time ...) including the tipps from https://support.sonymobile.com/gb/xperiaxz1compact/faq/system-&-performance/i-cannot-power-on-my-device/

As I thought the battery is totally uncharged I tried to charge the mobile for a longer time, then I let the mobile unplugged for a longer time ....... all these tried steps without any reactions - no vibrating, no LED blinking. Screen stays black but phone also didn't get warm.

Furthermore I tried a Charger Doctor (Voltage and Current Meter) to check the power that the mobile gets. First it says about 5 V and about 1 A, but after a while (~ 80 min) the Ampers drops to about 0,13.

After some time unplugged and forced 2-minutes-restart and pluggin in again, it starts again with 1 A - but this drops again after some time.

Can anybody declare this? Is this something I can solve on my own? Any solving suggestions? I really hope so!

I could handle this over guarantee, but first I would like to try to solve this on my own, because I would like to rescue the personal data that is stored on the phone. My last backup was made some time ago, and as the phone is dead now, I couldn't get the data now 😞

I'm glad for any responses that could help me!

Thank you!

My Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact also seems to have suddently died around 3-4 days ago. (Hope it's not)

Sounds similar to yours case.

I was browsing in Google Chrome and suddently the phone froze. It still did show the frozen picture, but no physical buttons or touch events worked. After a minute or so the screen brightness decreased (as it normally does after some time) and after around 2 minutes the screen turned off (again: as usual) - so while it seems that it was fully frozen, at least the software dimming the screen was still running. Was that also how your phone stopped working?

The battery was charged to around 100%. It looks completely dead (nothing lights up and nothing works - not even the power button + volume up combo, the 2-minute reset or USB-connection to PC). My theory is that it's still turned on, but the software has just (totally!) crashed. Since the battery can't be removed, i'm waiting until the battery drains... Will probably take some days... (For once, good battery life is a curse )

(I'm guessing the power + volume-up key combination is checked by software? So if the software has crashed, it could make sense that the key combo is not recognized)

Yes, I have updates. Yesterday I got the repaired phone back - the main board was replaced on guarantee. No data was rescued 😞 That's sadly but a lesson for life!

But thank god no costs for repairing.

I had a similar experience with x compact.

As it was weekend and i was in hurry i opened the case, using hair dryer and bank card and it turned out that the battery connector had become disconnected. After connecting it all worked again. Of course the warranty would be void and water proof no more.
