You will have to set the settings.

Long push in the middle of the navigation bar (the round symbol)

Then on the lower left there is a symbol something like an animals feeding-trough with 3 spatters coming out of it.

Anyway, tap that. You will see your avatar in the upper right corner.

A screen follows with tabs Personal Info, Assistant, Services, Home

Tap Assistant

Goto bottom of page where you see assistant devices: phone

Tap phone.

Now you can set Google Assistent to your liking

Google Assistant available for XZ2 compact?

Has anyone successfully used Google Assistant on XZ2? Some of the discussions on this board suggest that people have. I tried downloading the app from Google Play, but my phone says "The Google Assistant isn't available on this device". I would really like to use the app and appreciate any suggestions.

No problem with loading Google assistant. Do you have the latest firmware? You may also need to clear cache for Google play and update Google play as well.

By the way, I am using xperia xz2 compact android pie build 52.0.A.3.126.
