System Icons missing from settings menu.

I have tried to remove the battery charging icon and battery icon from the home screen but cannot, as in the display settings the system icons sub section is missing,i have tried a software repair a lot of times today using two different laptops and it will not complete a repair ( it wont power up the phone and highlight next),Sony support have been no help, this phone was bought this morning.

Hi @NickLittle67, welcome to our community!

The option to remove icons from the status bar has been removed in Android Pie, that is why you are not able to find the setting for it, so there is nothing wrong.

Regarding the software repair, is this something that you wanted to try to see if this menu would appear, or was it for another reason? The device should however be powered off during the whole repair process and once it has been completed, you can power on the device again.

Tried everything,the only thing that worked was downloading nova launcher,that solved the issue.I think to be honest it's an andriod 9 thing.

The following are possible reasons why an app no longer appears on the Application screen:

The app has been deleted
The app has been disabled
The app has been hidden. For example, some Xperia™ devices that run on Android™ version 4.2 or higher have the option to hide apps from the Application screen.

Try these methods one after the other. Verify after each method whether the problem was solved, before trying the next one.

Verify what apps are installed on your device.
Download and reinstall the app from Google Play™. If you are missing a third-party app from the Application screen, you may have uninstalled it by mistake.
Enable the app in the Settings menu. If you are missing a pre-installed app on the Application screen, you may have disabled it by mistake. Sony applications, such as the Music, Album, Alarm and Messaging applications have a Disable/Enable option. Some Google™ apps, such as Chrome may also have the Disable/Enable option. All other third-party apps can be uninstalled.
Reset the app preferences. Devices that run on Android™ version 4.1 or higher include an option to reset the app preferences. This action resets all disabled apps, disabled app notifications, default applications for certain actions, and background data restrictions for apps.
Rearrange the apps on the Application screen. Select the Custom/Own order or By name/Alphabetical in the Application screen menu. If the Most used or Installed (not available in Android™ 6.0) option is selected, then only a limited number of apps get shown.

Like I previously said it's an Android 9 thing, Nova launcher removed the battery icon charging icon.

As I wrote in my previous reply to you, the option to remove system icons has been removed in Android Pie (9.0) and you will not find the setting to do so in Settings > System > System icons, like you would in Android Oreo (8.0). However I'm glad to hear that you have been able to remove the icon using a different launcher!

Is it possible to remove the time from the status bar? It was really silly of Google to change the position of the time from right to left. I think they did it just because they could and for no real benefit.

Hi @jmaxim917!

The option to remove the icons from the status bar was removed in Android 9.0, however a previous user in this thread was able to remove the battery icon using a different launcher, but I'm not sure if another launcher will be able to remove the clock/time from the status bar.

You can always try and search for "launcher" in the Google Play store and there should be a couple of launchers to choose from!
