I converted the file to .flac with VLC and then deleted the redundant .mp3 from the phone.

It was seen by Music and played with no problems.

I downloaded a .mp3 file (music) and was expecting to use Music (walkman) app to listen to it.

However, it has been detected as a picture or video and shown in Album instead. Music can't detect it at all.

If I play the file with Album, is shows a black screen, not the art work

Is there any way to change the attributes of the file to something detectable by Music?

Music v 9.4.2.A.0.1

XZ2 on Oreo built 52.0.A.3.126

Can you transfer it to a PC and see what happens when you try to run it? Can you also right click and check its properties/details?
