Android pie battery drain: CPU idling high

In Android pie the cpu doesn't idle at 300mhz, but all 8 cores stay active with 4 idling at 518mhz and the other 4 cores idling at 806mhz even with maximum stamina mode! This results in a 3-4x faster discharge rate.

Come on Sony! Battery life is 1/3 of what it was in Oreo... Even with max Stamina mode!!

Is this why I don't get Android 9 Pie on my Sony Experia XZ1 Compact? Is this problem in all regions? I'm in the Netherlands and reading that it come to SEXZ1 and SEXZ1C in October 2018 but no update available!? I'm in Experia Companion on my laptop whit phone connected whit cable. Software-repair come up whit softwareversion: 47.1.A.12.270-R8B. Is that the latest voor SEXZ1(C)? In all regions? Or is there one or more places where Android 9 Pie running good on the phone? Is there by Sony already given a date when the problems are resolved? So many questions!

I'm also in the Netherlands and received android pie pretty quickly though. I can't tell why you did not receive one. Maybe your retailer didn't sell you a device with Dutch firmware? The problem of battery draining also exists in ultra Stamina mode, in which no 3rd party app is loaded by default either.

At first I thought it was because of the removal of the "keep WiFi awake only during charging" option, which I used to enable. However the problem also persist while WiFi and 4g are disabled and also during flight mode. My standby battery usage used to be 0.1% an hour in Oreo and combined 0.9% per hour. Now it is 1% an hour in stand by and 3.5% combined in Pie with maximum Stamina mode enabled, only WiFi on and all other connectivity features disabled, no Facebook app, no WiFi scanning, email only syncing once every hour, no push services except whatsapp, low brightness, no gaming etcetera etcetera. It could only get worse with normal usage. It is not good!

So that doesn't sound good whit the battery using! What is the number of software-version of Android 9 Pie in the XZ1Compact?
I'm indeed not having a Dutch firmware xz1c but a German from Vodafoon. Maybe I'll call Belsimpel where I bought it how to remove all of that on it. I myself don't have Vodafoon and deleted all I saw and could but maybe there is still something more under the hood? But hopefully Sony will resolve/fix this battery draining bug soon! I always has on 4G LTE, WiFi, Bluetooth and NFC and all the apps I used. Sometimes stop all the apps at once. THX hope to get the software version number from you or anyone and I'm gonna call Belsimpel.

That's weird! I've bought my phone at the same shop in January 2018, but my phone does not have this problem. My firmware build number is 47.2.A.0.306. Don't install it!

Clear, I'm not installing Android 9 Pie with Build-no 47.2.A.0.306 and stay on 47.1.A.12.270.
I've Kernel-version 4.4.78-perf+

I did receive a system update today with the November security patch. Build number is 47.2.A.2.33. I don't see a reduction in battery consumption so far...

updated my phone earlier today to the new november security patch. 4 hours later with phone mostly idling and display turned off battery was drained to 30% 5 hours before that the phone was removed from the charger with 100% charged. Will attempt a repair once the phone is charged enough.

performing a repair didn't fix anything, battery is still draining quickly and CPU is idling high. how to best fix this? Im running the latest update as stated before v. 47.2.A.2.33core 1-4 running at 100% 5-8 running at idle speeds after a couple of minutes

@azakir;

Performing a software repair with Xperia Companion will not make any changes to the CPU core idling speeds since it was a change introduced with the Android Pie update.

Regarding the battery consumption try letting the system stabilize for 2 days to see if it improves.

This was just a security update i was allready running android pie for a month prior. Didn;t have the battery issue at all during that time. it just happened this morning after performing the security update. But i will give it 2 days to see if it improves.

Thanks for the reply, but time doesn't affect anything in Pie. I do notice a slightly less peak consumption when it's active, but in standby it's still draining for no reason

After turning off the Phone and ketting it charge completly overnight the drain issue gas been resolved as welk as the high idling of the cpu. No idea hut im happy now

Hello all,

I discovered that Sony Mobile is one of the most open source and developer friendly OEMs out there and everyone can unlock his device if that is possible. Check can do here: https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/get-started/unlock-bootloader/

I'm working on it, because I can't found Platform tools 26.0.2 or older are required. Only the latest 28... I can find so at night installed complete Android Studio, hopefully I can manage it and unlock my Xperia XZ1 Compact.

I'll get a factory reset so have to start again with install my phone or try to getting a backup on the phone with Experia Companion .

Also I dicovered an update for my device on this site:

Here is the laatste version dated Dec.21 2018 for mijn phone!

2018-12-21: Update of Beta AOSP Pie binaries (Android 9.0 – Kernel 4.9) for:

Xperia XZ Premium, Xperia XZ1 and Xperia XZ1 Compact (Yoshino)

Only here is kernel 4.9 and I've now 4.4 anyone know if this is oké for me or NOT OKE!

I'm gonna try Android Studio first with an old Samsung to find out what all happen.

Hopefully is anyone out there which can make a program with steps to take in Android Studio for unlocking phone using on your computer and go to the platform-tools folder within the Android SDK folder and connect using command 'fastboot devices'.

Than finally unlock with the unlock code (I received already for my IMEI) using the command:

fastboot -i 0x0fce oem unlock 0x<insert your unlock code>

Maybe a very stupid question but where do I type those commands?

First of all: pretty shifty reply from Belsimpel. I'm not sure if I will buy a phone there ever again if they adopt these kinds of practices...

Secondly I'd advise you to watch out with unlocking your phone, as you will lose "drm keys" that make your Sony phone a Sony phone (acces

to apps and stuff). Google "xz1 compact xda" and take a look at the page of xda. That's a developers website where you can find more information on unlocking your phone and firmware flashing
