One decision just because of this - never buy a sony product again - ever! That's the only language they understand. Sony has fallen incredibly and their success in gaming has made them incredibly arrogant and some say stupid.

HDMI out not working

As you can see, I have almost got my phone set up. I drilled/screwed an in-car cradle to the side of my bookshelf and bought a USB Type-C to HDMI adapter, and a HDMI cable, and a HDMI splitter to my top monitor, so I can play games from my phone and easily switch between the two when needed. But I'm having problems getting the HDMI-out to work. I've checked the compatibility with apps like "MHL Checker" and whatnot, and it all says it's working fine but I can't get the TV to register a signal.

Setup ❤️

Error checking:
Selecting USB connection type - Defaulted to "Provide charge to device" when I plugged it in. Now not giving any option.
Everything plugged-in properly - Checked.
Hardware - Everything is brand-new, nothing's damaged.

Ports - Type-C works great transfering files. Transfer speeds match that of normal Type-C speeds for my USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports on my PC. Charges the phone well when I plug it in. (A lot quicker than what I expected comming from using Oppo's for a while.)

I've had problems all over with this phone since I bought it. Apps not installing, can't configure the app drawer/library. I mean... it looked good? The specs and the benchmarks sugested real potential. If you put 6GB of Pumpin Soup and an OctoPUS in a phone it oughta do better than this so far. I thought maybe I'd gotten a dud, but I ran the device diagnostics/tests out of the box and it said it was fine. But I guess it just tested for the external bits like the screen and buttons and whatnot.

Hi @Jukebox461;

Unfortunately the XZ Premium is not MHL compatible, you can use Google Cast or screen mirroring in Settings>Device Connection.

Well, it's got USB Type-C so, it is. MHL has been around since (at least) 2013. That's 6 years ago when I had a Galaxy note 3.

You can send any signal you want over any connection you want, it's just protocols, (physical restrictions permitting). Eg: IPv4 & IPv6 over USB type-A 1.0 if you really want.

I just don't get how they were too lazy to have it in the swipe-down menu or something. I'm really against rooting devices, but I'm getting really sick of realising that this phone disguised itself with a price bracket that it didn't belong in. Apart from being made of glass, I kind of want to go back to my Oppo R9s.

Don't get me wrong, it didn't have a few things. But the fingerprint sensor was in a good spot and it was $435AUD store price when I got it over a year ago, and this cost me $800AUD store price. Said it was market down from $1,000 so I thought "It's a Sony product, 6GB RAM, benches were good from the CPUs, it's in the right price bracket", but I'm already over it.
