Rattle - anyone else?

Hello.

If you tap the lower right side of the xz2 with the back of the device facing you there is a very pronounced rattle. Before I send back, anyone else have this? I'm wondering if normal. Thanks

Mine has this problem aswell. I tried some other phones in the store and they had it, and I know other people with XZ2 having the same issueso it is how this phone is supposed to be I guess (basically, I still havent seen a phone without it). I absolutely love when i put my flagship XZ2 on the desk and it rattles like it's made of cheap plastic.

Some didn't notice it on their phones untill i showed them. Basically, if you knock on the lower left side of your phone (looking at the display), you will hear rattling sound (more noticable if you knock from behind). I suspect it is the new vibration motor (which, by the way, is completely useless for vibrations on calls etc.).

Thanks - at least I'm not totally nuts. I'm glad I sent it back though. Since it was the international model in the event something is wrong I'd be hosed beyond the warranty period.

Sticking with my Xz1 for now...

Strange beanbag-sound from XZ2

Hi all!

I bought XZ2 week ago and found out couple days ago that there is some strange beanbag-sound from XZ2 when I put the phone on the table, when I throw it from hand to hand.
Then I just try to tap the backside of the phone with my finger and got that terrifle sound like child "beanbag" inside it. The sound occures if I tap the right bottom corner (half widht and half height) of the phone backside and (~4 x 5 cm) of the left top corner. Here is the tapping areas where issue exists:

Is it normal? I'm as an enginier suppose - no! Do anyone also have similar issue?

I tested my wife Samsung J730 - and it has no issue. And also from my memories none of my

colleagues phones has such issues!

Waiting for feedback from Sony support, because I need to go to business trip in a week and suppose I have no enough time to send the phone to service and waiting the results of it.

Difficult to say if it's normal because each person has a different opinion and sensitivity to "strange sounds".

In general, it's normal that you can hear the vibration motor when shaking the phone.

But I cannot say if what you are hearing is the vibration motor or if there really is something loose in the phone. I've tried doing what you meantioned on my XZ2 and I only hear a very faint clicking noise from the vibration motor.

On the other hand: If everything in your phone is working well (run the system tests and also check wireless charging) then probably this noise isn't an issue.

To be sure you could go to a shop and compare your noise to the same model in the store.

Well, I called today to our local shop and asked them to test 2 XZ2 phones they have and result was the same as my one - i.e. strange sounds exists also on their 2 copies.

So looks like it could possible be a vibration motor, but why so loud? Why other phones do not have such sounds?

I tested the phone before buying and all the tests were OK.

Probably the sound is louder on the XZ2 because of the dynamic vibration motor which is a more massive device compared to the "normal" vibration motors.

Hello Uranus Im clad to hear im not the only one with this problem! I bougth my phone befor i took on a 3 week holiday and when i unpacked it i noticed the rattle or beanbag sound as u discripe, but sadly I was out of the contry and couldent deliver it back to the store as a DOA for a new one. Cause this is Not normal, that your phone is ratteling when you put is on the table or when u get a messasge while your on the phone speaking you can hear the beanbag rattel sound from indside the phone like something is lose or not put thogether correctly. The tapping on the bag makes the sound come EASY and there shouldent be this sound as i testet serveral phones in stores and called sony where I got to speak with a sony supporter who had been using this zx2 phone for 3 month and he cold notmake his is phone rattel even if he dropped it on the table! and ichould hear it on the phone while we where talking. I also made him hear the ratteling and beanbag noice just by tapping the back of the phone where u discriped, and boom he heard it rigth away and tryed on his but yet again he could not make his XZ2 to make this sound, So thereby this is not normal and you shold get it back to the store and make them look into it. It is not okay for sony to send out phones that rattel just by laying it on the table, I also cheked the theory that its the bigger vibrator because of the Dynamic thing and its not cause 1; if u tun on all vibrators and all sound with the dynamic vibration on the rattel/beanbag sound still occures, and 2; the other phones in the stores dont do it and the sony supporter who had the phone for 3 month did not have this.

Hope it helps u figure out what to do and btw we are not alone dunno the rules here so clear but im not gonna link it just sheach rattel sound xz2 instead of beanbag sound.

Are most sending their device back for this problem or just accepting it?

I've had three faulty units with distorting ear speaker from Amazon. All returned now. They were H8216 Rev 2.

I ordered my 4th device from ao.com and it is a Rev 3. So far no issues with the ear speaker but it does have this rattle.

Could we get a response from Sony on this?

Can a moderator please merge these into one thread?

My device has this rattle and I have also tested with the vibration motor running and do not think it is the motor causing the noise. It sounds like something loose(antenna cable?) rattling on the inside of the glass back cover. Can be reproduced by tapping the top right or bottom left of the the bezels.
