Good afternoon!

I am a fun of Sony for many years and I have all type of Sony products from TV, video camera, photos camera, Action came, PS4, tablet and mobile phones.

I start to buy phones with Sony Xperia Z, and, until now i have all models without any problems.

But now, I have screen problems with two of my best phones.

I will start with the newest Sony Xperia XZ Premium.

I bought him on E-bay in 07.06.2017. He is in seler Warranty.

Is a Sony Xperia XZ Premium G8142 64GB Dual SIM Smartphone with IMEI xxxxxxx-xxxx7. From 6 weeks, in the left part of the screen (under is the sim card hole) appear a yellow spot. In time, he increase, and now is half of the circle with diameter of 1.5 cm (please check the picture attached).

Please tell me how I can proceed to repair this in your one year warranty. I am very upset to see all the time this bug on a very nice 4K display.

In plus, all the frames of the phone start to lose his shiny cover. Why? How can I solve these problems? Are some separate parts to buy and to replace this frame?

Unfortunately the seller doesn’t want to repair my phone and don't answer me anymore.

Unfortunately I have the same problem with oldest version Xperia Z5 Premium. This was bought in March 2016 on E-Bay with IMEI xxxxxxxxxxx-xxxxx65. In November last year start to have the same problem, in the same position like on XZ Premium. From then the yellow sign start to increase, and now have more than 4 cm length. Please check the attached pictures.

Is a problem for 4 K displays on mobile? Until now, I don't have problems with displays from my older mobile phones (Z, Z1, Z3, Z4, Tablet Z, Tablet Z2, 6 TVs two of them 4k 160 cm diagonal). What happens? I don't want to change my very good impression about Sony products.

I try to solve this problem in service in Romania, but they don't want to repair because the IMEI's are not from Europa.

Please tell me what steps I must to make to resolve all this problems.

Hi @Corneliu

Firstly, I've had to edit out your IMEI numbers, this is for your own security as they can be used by others if not removed.

Secondly, as you've found out, Sony warranty is region based and generally they won't cover the warranty in EU of a device meant for the eastern market or vice versa. Your seller should have made you aware of this.

I'm assuming that the listing for the phone didn't state it had a warranty? If it did state that it had a warranty, then the seller MUST provide the warranty that was promised in the listing. It's part of eBay rules. In fact, if you contact the seller and ask for a repair, and they declined, you are well within your rights to open a case in either eBay or PayPal claiming that the seller isn't offering the warranty as listed.

I hope you get sorted soon.

Good afternoon!

Unfortunately nobody tell you that. They take money and end of story. And on E-bay you can make claim in maximum one month from your purchase. The seller doesn’t replay me and I have this product Sony original with these problems.

First: I am upset, because happens me second time, in the same position like on my old Xperia Z5 Premium.

Second: Where is international warranty? I pay a lot and both are original Sony products. I need your explanation about this big issue for the screens. Why happens this?

And what happen now with this frame. How can I change this plastic frame? Become very ugly.

What is your official position about my problems? I must trust in Sony and to buy the next Xperia XZ2 Premium?

Hello Corneliu,

I am also from România and also contacted Sony România for a repair.

The procedure is quite simple:

Call Sony Center Băneasa, they will give you a number from a service from Mogoșoaia.

I have some scratches on my middle frame from dropping down. They told me they will replace for money with original middle frame. I will loose my water resistant, but not my warranty.

The procedure is as follow:

You send the phone personally or by courier, they will tell you the cost, then paying cash in advance is better than by card, then they estimate 5 working days for the repair. I am scheduled to replace it next week. They told me a new screen is 120 EUR +tva and middle frame 40 eur

+tva. I don't need the screen. Also you have to pay the working 25-50 EUR depending of the work they do. Very reasonable prices in my opinion.

I have 2 years warranty, why do you have only 1?

Seeing your display problems I think of water. So it is your fault and you have to pay for the parts. But you will not loose warranty.

Also check witrigs.com for parts, but I don't trust them because they are from China. Good luck.

I also remember that the service asked me from where i buyed the phone, mine was from cel.ro. It's possible you loose the warranty if you buyed from ebay, but they do the replace. Ask them.

Good afternoon!

100% is not because of the water. This mobile phone was never in water. And anyway it had to be waterproof. The problem arose in January when I was not even near the water. With the previous models I filmed under water at depths of 1-1.5 meters and did not have anything. You are shore is water problems?

The left and right part of the frame (made from soft plastik covered only with a soft paint) can be change separatly like the corners from previous models, or are together with the main frame?

The company from Mogosoaia work with original parts? The display will be 4k?

Thank you for information!

They are authorized Sony service.

Now regarding the spot on the display, Yes it can be other problem, not just water. I remember having same problem with an LG g3.

Couple of reasons i can easily think about whats causing this issue.

First of all, heat.

If your device stays long in the sun or you keep it hot while using it, this could be it.

Too much heat will cause the screen to act like this, it is especially known in sony and galaxy devices.

So try to keep it cool and once it gets hot stop using it, and cool it down.

The second reason is bending.

By bending i mean any bending pressure you apply on the device with time it will act like this.

For instance, if your device stays in your pocket while you are sitting (your legs being bent are applying bending pressure on the device) with time it will cause yellow spots because in your pocket your phone might get warm and even hot and with the pressure it could actually cause slight bending in the device as it is made of metal and glass and with time it will cause an effect on the screen.

so I learned from my mistakes as I had these issues before with my previous sony produts, always when I sit i take my phone out of my pocket, some times even when I walk because this device is large and the slightest move can cause pressure on it.

Plus i always try to keep it cool - that said, I rarely use it under the sun, or in hot conditions, the device stays cool mostly but in hot weather it can get pretty warm so i try to use it when im in a cold area, or in air conditioned room, if it ever gets hot i place it close to a fan or AC or even put it in the fridge if i felt its heating like crazy.

so be careful man. the slightest bend over time can cause such problems so does heat, especially on sony devices.

though I gotta be honest your device doesnt look grade A material I think its not original or it was a used phone or some thing as mine has been with me for almost a year now and its still as good as new.

remember, always use a case, even on the sides place covers and on the back, and put a gel case on it and a screen protector, dont let it heat, or apply pressure on it and youre set for years of good use

hope I helpt

Hi guys!
I've the same problem with display. Two weeks ago suddenly appeared big area of orange at right upper corner. In heat it becomes darker. Friends told me that it was my fault only - I pressed the phone in pocket, broke it, drowned or something else. But today I've saw another "cloud" on the same side of display. Sensor on these areas is OK. I'm afraid of continuing "clouding". And now the question! 😀
How do you think, is my case warrantable? Because repair by warranty will took a lot of time and if it's wouldn't free I'd rather do repairs by cash in non-official service center.
Upd. Like special offer for the first buyers of XZ2 Sony provides extra warranty for 1 year on display with free logistic to service center and back in case of damage. Like they know something)))

I had a similar problem and sony fixed it under warranty as it wasnt my fault.

but again, sony screens are usually sensitive to having yellow'ish spots, and concidering that the XZ premium is a big device, it could get bent easily even in your pocket, so try to be more careful. do not sit with the phone in your pocket, dont sleep while using the phone it could fall under you and you might sleep on it all night, just keep it in a loose place, like a holder case where you can carry it on your belt and put the phone in it...

again, sony should cover this under warranty as I understood, depends on the contract in your region.

Hi everyone,

I have the same issue on two Xperia devices. The first one is Xperia S LT26i. It is a small phone, I never bent it, but the little cloud circles started to appear on the screen. My second phone is the big Xperia C5 Ultra Dual. I am using this phone since one year and now I am getting the same problem. Same position as yours.. A yellowish cloud on the left portion of the screen, just above the sim card slot. It's not related with the sim card. It is a manufacturing defect on Xperia devices since 2012 Xperia S and the newer devices too. I wanted to purchase the XZ Premium but now I am afraid to buy it. I think I'll purchase a Xiaomi or Huawei. I am really sad to say this because I am a true Sony fan - I recently bought a top Sony headphones but I don't want their smartphones anymore. I really hope they correct this screen issue, and then I will buy their phones again if this issue is no more present.
