Hi, plugged in the supplied earphones for the first time. No response from them. Tried another set of the same model, still sound coming from phone speaker. Have seen what other people are saying. No Smart Connect installed, installed to try that, but still no change. Any other ideas please, would be appreciated .

You can try using 3rd party SoundAbout app from the Play Store to force the headphones to be used.

I have had a similar problem from start. Some headphones work and some not.
It is the same in safe mode. All of them work on other phones.
Sony sent me a pair to try and they did not work. They told me to use soundabout but it does not work in Oreo. Support did not know. I found "Check phone app" suddenly they worked but all other head phones (that did not work before) still were dead.
I sent the phone for guarantee service. Very swift service and they changed the jack. But.... The same result! Exactly the same cables/phones.
I will call them tomorrow but I don´t know what to say and they will not either.
The cables work on all other phones I tried.

Shortly after my last post both sets of earphones started to working but not for long and has been intermittent ever since. I believe that sometimes the phone doesn't detect that the earphones or lead being inserted. I tend to think this is a software problem rather than mechanical.

Hi, and well done. Just downloaded Lesser Audio Switch. Put the earphones in, switched Audio Switch to earphones and just like magic there was stereo in my ears. Surely this proves that it's the phones software. So come on Sony or Android, get this sorted, I'm convinced the earphones worked until I upgraded to Android 8, thanks again for the info 👍🏻
