XZ Premium Battery Drain

My XZ Premium has been fine since I purchased it approx 6 weeks ago. However in the last 48 hours, I have severe battery drain. My phone was fully charged last night at 100% and without any usage whatsover was already down to 50% this morning. Even when I look at the battery usage - it is telling me that nothing is using the battery apart from standby at 7 percent, yet half of my battery has gone.

Hi @Madgaz237, welcome to the community.

This is usually caused by third party apps. Try your phone in safe mode and see if you experience the same amount of drain.

Try AccuBattery application from Google Play Store. It shows detailed information how much power applications and phone functions consumes, and also lots of other interesting data from charger and battery life.

Among so many problems and software bugs with this device I must say battery life is the only thing I do not have issue with this device. It is good considering its small size. I have had suxh issues you described with regular XZ, up to a degree that my device went down to 0% battery life even if it was on charger over night. Strange but sometimes it was happening.

Do not listen to the Sony support, it's commonly the kernel that drains battery. Sony never get's the kernel straight, it's a well known issue in almost all Xperia devices.

My phone drains ~1 % per hour, 81% of that caused by the kernel according to GSam Battery.

Funny thing is, once you install a custom kernel, the issue is gone. Simply gone. Android 7 features so many mechanisms to reduce background drain, no idea why Sony keeps failing with that. It's just one of these Sony things that never really work well.

I have LG and HTC phones running a 1:1 copy of the Apps installed on my XZP, only the XZP drains battery - the others don't.

Btw: I have the same issue, tried Safe mode, tried a full reset - issue persists. Just like it did with former Sony devices - until a custom kernel was available.

It also happened to me after first Charge , the battery dropped down from 60% to 20% in 10 minutes only .

After uninstaling Google play services updates and installing them again the battery is perfect.
