Hello Guys,

i was messing around with the support section in settings and realized that my device is someone low in memory available. I checked and I only have whatsapp in the background. Closing it doesn't affect the situation that much.

As you can see the phone is very stable and last reboot was 3 days ago ( i have the phone since Friday night ) and I really prefer not to reboot as I'm testing stability.

Anybody has same readings ? I don't have that much of apps installed ( Google apps and Viber/ whatsapp/Fb/FB messenger and instagram + one game )

That's everything.

In my opinion ALL cellphones should be rebooted/restarted every day as this will eliminate many of the little glitches that affect all phones.

it's not about number of apps but the kind of apps installed Facebook is a known RAM, storage and battery hog, for example.

anyway, you shouldn't worry too much about it until your phone starts lagging or freezing. the way Android works, it tries to keep apps in memory so that you can switch quickly between apps and continue where you left. it seems counterintuitive when you're used to the Window way (where high RAM usage slows down the machine), but you don't have to do anything about it. no need to force close apps or swipe them away from the recent apps list, no need for memory "boosters" or "cleaner" apps, just let the OS manage the memory itself

Can anyone from devs explain why Android is using over 2GB of RAM memory itself???

Also, why it is mentioned separately for Operating System Android - takes 2GB and System Android - consumes 184MB of RAM. What's the didference? Why it is not shown together? I assume Ram management is very poor in Android as system itself requires so much Ram to run... Probably a lot of bloatware and spying agent services. Really considering switching to Apple due to the system, due to what Sony did to its launcher (almost stock) and lack of software updates from Sony (no fixes to issues and bugs, no improvements, no new features, only security patches + constant degradation reflected in continous feature / function removal + apple support devices longer).

It would be nice if any Sont dev would reply.

Thank you.

Your ram is full with about 70% befause thats the way android deals with ram. On a 6 gb Ram u will also have 70% ram usage

70% you've mentioned is allocated by Android system itself, I didn't count running apps.
The way Google is doing it is wrong, I think Apple is better on the system level.

I remember Google's lies years ago when they mentioned OS will be lighter and consume less RAM so that devices with lessen RAM amount will run smoother, we all know how it ended...

The other thing is apple provides updates for about 3 years for devices, Sony about 1,5 to 2 years.
The only exception was first Xperia Z.

And then on top of it, for XZ Premium I do not see any worth updates, only security patches, that's all. This is the major problem for me.

Hardware? Good
Design? Great
Build quality? Good with some constraints (Gorilla glass 5 is bad)
Warranty service? Great
Software smoothness? Great
Software update and bug fixes? Poor
New features? Poor (rather constant regress with removing existing features / functions)
Marketing? Weak to non existing (depending on a region)

re: bug fixes - latest update seems to have increased maximum speaker volume as well as fixed bug with DND mode not disabling automatically when it should.
you also can't say that Sony isn't bringing new features with updates, when every Android version bump brings features introduced by Google. they remove some of their preinstalled apps, I'll give you that, but I'm guessing it's so that the update process can get smoother and faster.

I also forgot to add something in regards to memory... Android is based on Linux and it manages memory in similar way Linux does, i.e. "free RAM is wasted RAM". it's different from how Windows manages memory and can often be confusing for some people. as long as the phone doesn't start lagging, there should be no concern about high memory usage, the OS knows what's it doing.
