After turning the screen off and on by pressing the power button the FPR works normally again. Sometimes this doesn't help and I have to enter the password to recover the FPR function.

Sony, please fix.

I haven't experience this but could you test the device in safe mode for couple of hours and check if you experience the same issue, also make sure that the fingerprint reader it's clean.

I've found out that the FPR is too sensitive to even a slightest dirt or wet. I have to completely dry the finger before unlocking. It irritates and makes the FPR unusable. There was no such a problem with my galaxy s6.

I agree with this that it is very sensitive to the least amount of moisture and or humidity. I am not sure if this can be fixed with an update or not. Is it too sensitive, or not sensitive enough? However, since it appears as if we are getting little response from Sony this whole forum may be nothing more than an owners complaint/help forum.

The oreo update (47.1.A.3.254) didn't fix anything. The FPR still requires a finger to be super dry.

Let's agree that we don't know how exactly the FPR is implemented. It might have its own firmware for example. So I'm not sure the issue cannot be fixed by a software update. There is still no response from the devs that might shed light.
