The connectors are not soldered, so if you can just get your phone open you can exchange the connector without any tool.

I have a W810i. I hadnt been able to figure out why the cell won't charge most of the time by USB to PC. I thought to blame it on windows for losing the drivers. USB is the only charger I own. The phone goes into USB connected state: File Transfer/phone mode. However, there is no Lightning bolt on the battery life so it is not charging. But then it'll suddenly start charging. It's a headache. It charges when it wants to. I got the phone from a friend so its not new. But he took very good care of it.

ALSO, Where do I get a connector to exchange? I'd prefer a connector that is not Sony Ericsson as it will be cheaper.

The most common problem with the Sony Ericsson fastport is probably the connector on the cable.

The plastic "snap on" breaks or wears out, then the connector will not sit tight enough, and it loose contact.

Take a good look on the cable connector!

Please note also that each USB port can only supply 500mA current, and the phone probably wants 450mA? Most Sony Ericsson chargers are rated 450 mA any way. So if you have connected any other USB device to your PC then you might exceed the 500 mA, and the PC might shut down the DC to your mobile.

Please note that the the 500 mA might be shared by more than one USB connector on the PC, so try disconnecting all other USB devices.

If you still have problems after checking the above I can send you a new connector for the phone.

I have connectors that are used in the M600, W950, P990, P1, W960, G700, G900, and I guess the W810 had the same connector.

I didn't know that the new phones had soldered connectors. Interesting. I wonder why? I haven't heard about any problems with the push-on type.

I was wrong about the USB power negotiation. The PC's USB port should probably not shut down the DC to the phone. The phone should initially take just 100 mA, and then ask the PC for permission to take 500 mA (or more).

However, at 100mA the phone's battery charging might not start, and the PC might not allow more current? I'm just guessing again...
Any way I strongly suggest that you try charging with a standard charger to figure out if something is wrong with the phone or not.

Good luck
